MATHIAS KIEF, far., sec. 13; P. O. Muscatine; born in Baden, Germany, March 2, 1830; came to Muscatine Co. in 1855. Enlisted in 1st Regiment L. V. I., and served time out; then enlisted in 11th I. V. I., Co. I, and served till the close of the war; was in the battles of Shiloh, Corinth and Atlanta, where he was wounded; and was in all the battles of that regiment. Married Mrs. Amarintha Huber in 1865; born in Baden, Germany, Jan. 22, 1821; she has two children by former husband Joseph, born Dec. 8, 1851; John, born May 30, 1861. Mr. Keif owns 120 acres of land, and is a member of the Catholic Church; Republican.
