PETER GETTERT, far.; Sec.5; P.O. Sweetland Center; born in Germany April 24, 1842; came to Muscatine Co., in 1854. In 1861, enlisted in Co. C, 16th Regiment I.V.I., and served till the close of the war; was in all the battles of the regiment---at Corinth, Pittsburgh Landing, Iuka, Oliver, and Atlanta, where he was under fire eighteen days, taken prisoner and held in Andersonville two months; was on the march to the sea with Sherman; marched from Savannah to Washington, and was at the general review. Returned to Muscatine Co. in 1866, and married Miss Amelia Fechner, born in Germany in 1840; have four children--- Henry, Lena, Theodore, and Ada. Mr. Gettert is a Democrat.
