JOHN W. CLENDENEN, farmer, Sec. 9; P. O. Sweetland Center; born in Mercer Co., Penn, Feb 18, 1839; came to Muscatine Co. with his parents in 1845; has been twice married; present wife was Mrs. Mary Montgomery; born in Belmont Co., Ohio, Feb. 12, 1847; Mr. C.'s parents settled near his present residence; remained there until their death. Mr. and Mrs. Clendenen are members of the Friends' Church. Mr. C. owns fifty--one acres of land, and has ever been identified with the Democratic party.
