At the age of two after the death of her mother in 1883, Almira Louise went to live with her grandmother, Theresa Louise Heron Olds, in Muscatine. Almira Louise was deaf from childhood as a result of whooping cough. She remained with her grandmother until the age thirteen when Theresa died. Almira Louise went to live with another relative who lived out of this area. She later returned to Muscatine where she met and married Frank Frederick Beckerman, an Episcopal minister. They had three children, Luke Frederick Beckerman, Lucia Louise Beckerman and John Henry Beckerman. |
