Lillibridge & St. John

The announcement of the above firm name as successors to the long established and prosperous grocery business of Jackson & Lillibridge will be received with a hearty expression of good will and generous wishes from the entire community. Mr. James Jackson after a busy and continuous service of 33 years in Muscatine trade retires to the quiet and rest from active work fittingly crowning so long and honorable a business career. Yesterday his interest was sold to Mr. Lillibridge, whereupon the new firm, as announced above, was at once formed, and the Journal knows of no firm starting out (if such it can be termed) under more auspicious circumstances.

“Chet” Lillibridge is still one of “the boys” and yet, would you believe it, he has been in business in Muscatine for 24 years and has sent out the usual great loads of vegetables, groceries, foods and condiments from the house of Jackson & Lillibridge almost every day for the past 13 years. In this work he has for the past 8 years been ably assisted by Mr. James H. St. John whose friends are legion and whose geniality and good nature are only exceeded by the number of inches of his statue.

It is needless of state that the reputation, finding its place on the very topmost round of the ladder, which this house has enjoyed in the past, will be more than sustained in the future and the Lillibridge & St. John will spare no effort that can contribute to the satisfaction and pleasure of their patrons.

Looked at in whatever light, the fact presents itself that the establishment of the firm of Lillibridge & St. John is a matter for congratulation.
