COMMENCEMENT HELD LAST THURSDAY EVE. Wilton High School's fifty-fourth annual Commencement Exercises were held Thursday evening, May 19th at which time a class of 21 young men and women received their diplomas.
Dr. Herbert Martin, head of the department of philosophy at the State University of Iowa, gave the address.
The formal dedication of Wilton's new $70,000.00 addition to the school building was the feature of the program.
A short history of the schools of Wilton, given by A. T. Nelson, brought out the fact that Wilton's first school building, built in 1875, was erected at a cost of $12,000.00. Prior to the erection of the new building school had been held in what is now known as the L. C. Kiser residence on West 6th Street and also in a store building in the business district. Members of the Board of Directors at the time of the erection of the first building included: Hon. I. K. Terry, J. D. Walker, S. L. Lawrence and Dennis Mahanna, with John Wiley as recorder.
