JAMES SAINT

     James Saint was born in Hamilton County, Ohio, Oct 27, 1830. In 1858 he went to Pike’s Peak in search of gold and later to California. In 1861 he enlisted in the Union Army. After the war he located at Lewis in Cass County, Iowa, where he worked as a carpenter.

     In 1866 he married Elizabeth Hamilton, a daughter of James and Elizabeth (Long) Hamilton, natives of Ohio. James and Elizabeth Saint bought land in Waveland Twp., Pottawattamie Co., where they lived until their deaths. They were the parents of five children: George, William, Inez, James and Earl.

    GEORGE SAINT served as Twp. Clerk of Waveland Twp. for many years. He never married.

    WILLIAM SAINT married Mary Jane Reynolds. They were the parents of three children, Harold, Harry and Hazel. William worked as a barber in Elliott and Red Oak. After the death of Mary, he married Sadie Harding.

Harold married Buelah Hornby. They had one son, Robert William. Harold worked in the Post Office in Council Bluffs for many years.

     Robert W. Saint and his wife Greta, have three children:

     Marsha Elizabeth – a dental assistant in Omaha; Gayle Ann, who is married to Dennis Bouckheyt and has a daughter, Laurie Ellen; and Robert Reynolds Saint who is in high school in Harlan. Robert W. Saint is postmaster at Harlan.

    Harry Saint was on the police force in Council Bluffs for many years. He was a “Motorcycle Cop”. He and his wife Mabel, adopted a daughter, Jeaneann, She was married to a Fangman and had two sons. After the death of her first husband, she married John Kern. They live in Council Bluffs.

    Hazel Saint Montgomery lived in Council Bluffs until her death.

    JAMES SAINT married Emma Peterson. They had two children: Harlan and Pearl. They farmed northwest of Elliott until retiring to a home in Elliott.

    Harlan married Agnes Sanny. They are the parents of two sons, Dennis and Ronald. Dennis and his wife have four children.

    Pearl married John Duncan. They have four children: James, John, Joyce and Jeanette.

    John Duncan has one son, John.

    Joyce Duncan married Paul Robinson. They have three children: Paula Jean, George and Grace. They live in Des Moines.

    Jeanette married Kenneth Madewell. They have three sons, Robert James, John David, and Joseph Wayne. They live in Aurora, Missouri.

    EARL SAINT married Blanche Artlip. They had four children: Donald, Edythe, Kenneth and Vera.

    Donald married Laura Jones. They had a son, William, and a daughter, Ann.

    Edythe married Jack Schneider and had a daughter, Judy.

    Kenneth married Lorraine Armstrong. They had four children: Sandra, Donna, Douglas and Nicholas.

Vera married Bruce Orton. They had two sons: Richard and Dwight, and an adopted daughter, Peggy.
