JULIUS and MABLE PENRY CARROLL

 

     Julius Carroll, son of  William J. and Lydia Ann Brown Carroll, was born Aug. 7, 1869 at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

     Julius was married to Mable Lucinda Penry, Dec. 24, 1906 at Red Oak, Iowa.  Mable was born Feb. 13, 1890 in Pilot Grove Twp., Iowa. She was the daughter of James Monroe and Pricilla (Roberts) Penry.

     Julius and Mable were the parents of seven children, they are:

        (1.) Blanche Darlene, born Jan. 25, 1908.  She married I. J. Warner, Nov. 29, 1928 at Van Meter, Iowa. They have five children. Blanche and I. J. are now living in Puyallup, Wash. (2.) Nora May, born Nov. 5, 1909. She married Ira C. Weppler, Dec. 24, 1928. They have two children. Ira was killed in a car wreck in 1959.  He is buried at Lewis, Iowa. Nora makes her home on a farm southeast of Lewis. (3.) Lester Brown, born Aug. 26, 1912, and died at the home of his grandfather Penry, Aug. 25, 1922, of asthma. (4.) Florence Marion, born Nov. 21, 1914. She was a graduate of Elliott High School, and also a member of the Church of Christ at Elliott.  She married Donald Haubert, Mar. 13, 1954. Florence passed away Sept. 3, 1956 of cancer. She is buried in the Glendale cemetery.  (5.) Harry Lee, born Mar. 9, 1920. He was married to Ethel Resh, Nov. 19, 1939, and they had 1 child.  Ethel passed away in 1951. Harry then married Olga Schaumecker Aug. 1, 1954, and they have 3 children. (6.) Dewey Neal, born Feb. 12, 1922, and married Dorothy Dey, Nov. 12, 1949.  They had no children. Dewey and Dorothy reside in Reno, Nev. (7.) Leonard James was born Sept. 19, 1926. He was married to Lorraine Tillett, Nov. 4, 1944, they had 3 children. Leonard and Lorraine were divorced, and he later married Fern Dueling, in April 1952,. and they had 4 children.  Leonard died Oct. 23, 1977 of cancer.  He is buried in Omaha, Nebr.

     Julius and Mable lived all of their married life around the Elliott area.  Julius was killed when hit by a car, east of Red Oak, March 24, 1937. He is buried at Red Oak. Mable moved to Lewis, Ia., in 1938, then to Peace Haven Retirement Home in Walnut in 1969. She now resides at the Atlantic Care Center, Atlantic, Iowa.
