CADWELL

 

   

    Charles Frances Cadwell was born May 29, 1883 near Logan, Iowa. He was the son of Edgar F. Cadwell and Ella Lewis Cadwell. He attended schools in or near Logan and graduated from Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, Iowa. He married Jessie Irene Busby on Dec. 25, 1908 and they moved to Elliott soon after they were married.

    Jessie Irene Busby was the daughter of Benjamin Webb Busby and Martha Barlow Busby. She was born Oct. 18, 1882, on a farm near Moorehead, Iowa in Monona County.

    My father was connected with the First National Bank of Elliott for almost 25 years. Mother had a teachers certificate from Drake University and taught country schools in northwestern Iowa for a number of years before her marriage.

    Their children were: Myrna Mildred Cadwell, Newell Lewis Cadwell and Vera Louise Cadwell.

    My father died March 19, 1976 and is buried in the Municipal Cemetery in Ames, Iowa. Mother is still living in Sunny View Nursing Home in Ankeny, Iowa. She is 96 years old.

    My father was associated with Iowa banking for over 40 years. He retired as President of the Union Story Trust and Savings Bank in Ames, Iowa in 1950.

    Children of Charles Frances Cadwell and Jessie Irene Busby Cadwell:

    1. Myrna Mildred Cadwell, was born Jan. 16, 1912 in Elliott, Ia. I attended Elliott schools and graduated from Elliott High School.  I graduated from Drake University's two-year teachers program. Then taught two years in the Nodway public schools. I married Wm. Barnard Stiles on March 19, 1932. Our children are: Roger Lee Stiles, born Jan. 6, 1934, died Jan. 9, 1934 and is buried in the Elliott Cemetery. Ann Marilyn Stiles (Behler), born Oct. 4, 1935 in Ames, Iowa. Mary Ellen Stiles (Rook), born Nov. 14, 1937 in Ames, Iowa. 

    2. Newell Lewis Cadwell, born Oct. 9, 1913. He attended Elliott schools and graduated from EHS, then graduated from the University of Iowa in Law and passed the Iowa bar examination. On Jan. 11, 1943, Newell was killed in a military plane crash in Colorado Springs, Colo.  He is buried in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

    3. Vera Louise Cadwell, was born Oct. 22, 1917. She attended Elliott schools and graduated from Dunlap High School. She then graduated from one of the Beauty Schools in Des Moines.  She married Max Connell from Greenfield, Iowa. Their children are Gary Connell, and Jeanne Connell.
