CLYDE F. BOTTS

  

 Clyde Francis Botts was born Dec. 26, 1884 in a log cabin in Montgomery County, Iowa, the son of Sidney J. Botts and Miriam A. (Coke) Botts. He attended schools in Montgomery County, Iowa and Ord, Nebr.  He went to Nebraska with his father at the age of eleven, following the death of his mother.  He returned to Iowa in the early 1900's. 

   Clyde Botts married Lois Algeria DeWitt, daughter of J. F. DeWitt and Louisa A. (Dille) DeWitt on Jan. 28, 1914.  They were married in Elliott by the Rev. Crewdson, pastor of the Christian Church.

    They farmed in Montgomery County, until for health reasons they moved to Elliott in 1939.  He worked in Elliott for Elliott Motor Co. and S & M Oil Co. until his retirement. Both were members of the Christian Church at Elliott. Four daughters were born to this marriage: Gwendolyn Lula, born Jan. 11, 1916 and died Feb. 2, 1916 with burial at Hillside Cemetery, Elliott; Miriam Annis, born July 3, 1917; Phyllis Anne, born Aug. 24, 1920; Lyda Mae, born Nov. 27, 1923.  All were born in Montgomery County, Iowa

   Miriam A. married Clifford C. Woods June 5, 1937; and married Marion Milner Sept. 17, 1955. They have one son, Gary C. Woods, by her first marriage.

   Phyllis A. married Paul N. Merrick March 27, 1941. They have one son, P. Douglas Merrick; and twin daughters who died in infancy.

   Lyda M. married Max R. Stennett Aug. 22, 1942. They had two daughters, Beverly Sue and Linda Lou.

   They had these four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Clyde F. Botts died May 25, 1977 at Griswold, Iowa. Lois A. Botts died September 6, 1963 at Carson, Iowa. Both are buried at Hillside Cemetery, Elliott, Iowa.
