I've "rescued" an old photograph of Claude SHUMATE and his wife which was
taken at the Genelli Studio in Sioux City, Iowa. The photograph appears to
have been taken in the early 1900's with the couple in their 30's at the
time. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following
information regarding the couple and their family:
Florence Lucinda "Flossie" MULLEN b. 2 Apr 1887 in Red Oak, IA to parents
Clark Albert MULLEN (b. 9 Aug 1861 in Rochelle, IL) and Sarah Augusta WEIN
NEWMAN (b. 17 Oct 1861 in Jefferson, WI). Florence married Claude Thomas
SHUMATE b. 7 Dec 1877 in Red Oak, IA to parents Silas & Elizabeth SHUMATE
(Silas b. 1841 in Lawrence Co. OH and Elizabeth b. Nov 1850 in OH) in about
1909 in IA.
The couple had 5 children including, Milton Clark; Floyd
Russell; Ralph Emery; Lois; and Verna SHUMATE, all born between 1910 and
1917. Florence MULLEN SHUMATE died in Mar 1973.
