Della March Stevens was the youngest child of Erial and Rose Stevens. Like her four older siblings,
she was born on the family farm, on March 4, 1882. (Her middle name for the month she was born.)
Before her marriage, she worked as a bookkeeper for her brothers' laundry business.
She married Charles Koons on June 5, 1916 in Clarinda, Iowa. They had three sons: Daryl, Harold and Eugene.
Charles and Della Koons ran the Henshaw Hotel in Clarinda. Charles ran the jetty or taxi service between Clarinda and the surrounding communities. In the early 1920s,
the family moved to New Market, IA where Charles farmed for a number of years and also worked at Oliver Corporation in Charles City. Della died at the age of 89 in New Hampton, Iowa.
