Maxine
Shipley, 17, Red Oak high school senior and considered one of the
most intelligent students in her class, died at the home of her
grand-uncle, Scott Smith, in Elliott, Saturday at 5:05 a. m., after
an illness of a week and a half.
She
had suffered a general nervous breakdown following an attack of
influenza.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the
Christian church with Rev. Orval E. Walker, pastor, in charge. Six
cousins acted as pallbearers: Paul Smith, Donald Smith, Max Shipley,
Paul Price, Clifford Gill and James Smith. Honorary pallbearers were
Betty Wenstrand, Cleo Lundgren, Fern Gasson, Ruby Tomlinson, Helen
Lathrop and Pauline Smith. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery at
Red Oak.
Maxine
Nelle Shipley was born in Corning, Adams county, Iowa, Jan. 19,
1918, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Shipley. She came with her
parents to Montgomery county in 1930, and lived on a farm northeast
of Red Oak. She attended a rural school and had entered high school
in Red Oak last fall. She was a member of the Christian church.
Besides her parents she is survived by four brothers, Amos Shipley,
living near Red Oak; John Edwin, 6; Richard Dean, 3, and Byron G.,
four weeks, all at home. She is also survived by her grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Perry Shipley, and Mrs. Liza Smith, living near Red
Oak.
