EVA LAIR BUELL ~~~~~~~~~~
Mrs. Eva Buell,
58
died of pneumonia Early this morning.
Mrs. Eva Buell, 58, of Portland, Oregon, died at 5:30 o'clock
this morning at the Murphy Memorial hospital from pneumonia. Mrs.
Buell came here a short time ago to care for her mother, Mrs. W.
H. Carpenter, who has been ill since the death of her husband.
Mrs. Carpenter is now in Murphy Memorial hospital also.
Mrs. Buell was a former resident of this county and was born
near Stennett, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Laire,
pioneers. She is survived by her husband, her mother and one
brother, Harry Laire, of Stennett.
Mr. Buell has been notified of the death and is on his way to
Red Oak. Until his arrival funeral arrangements will be pending.
The body is at the Bolleau & Thomas undertaking parlor.

TEFFT -
Elisha Tefft, a well known resident of Sherman township, died at
the home of his sister, Mrs. Jane Laire, near Stennett, Wednesday
afternoon at 1:00. The deceased was an unmarried man of about 59
years of age and came to this county in 1856. Funeral services were
held at the house Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock; and interment
made in a private burying ground on the Laire homestead.

25, 1904. Mr. Tefft was
buried on the land he helped to homestead, which was the Harry
Laire farm at Stennett, Iowa. In 1989 His grave was exhumed and
entered in Lowman Cemetery. Other family members exhumed from the Laire property were Elisha's parents, David and Abby Tefft and his
brother-in-law, William H. Carpenter.] |

CLARK WEIDMAN
BURIED
THURSDAY AFTERNOON
Funeral services for Clark Weidman, 58, who died at his home,
105 W. Elm St., late Saturday morning of ailments resulting from a
paralytic stroke suffered a year and a half ago, were held
yesterday afternoon at the Evangelical church in charge of Rev.
John A. Deedrick. Serving as pallbearers were his six nephews,
Glen and Paul Stafford, Max Weidman, Hilton Weidman, Lloyd Weidman
and Clarence Weidman. Interment was in
Evergreen Cemetery. The
funeral had been delayed in order that children living in the west
might attend.
Mr. Weidman in his last illness was bedfast but two and a half
days prior to his death.
Clark Weidman was born on a farm in Montgomery county, Feb. 15,
1877, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Weidman. He married on Oct. 5,
1899, in Grant township to Cora Copeland, who survives him along
with the following children: Mrs. Jake Meng and Mrs. August Marra,
of Jefferson, OR; Harold Weidman, of Red Oak; Mrs. Chas. Marra, of
McEiven, OR, and Dwane and Bette Weidman, who live at home here.
Besides these he also leaves 12 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs.
John Money, of Red Oak, and six brothers, Dick of Essex; Ed, of
Creston; Frank, of Los Angeles, CA; Joe, of Watson, MO; P.H., of
Elliott, and Doc, of Red Oak.
Mr. Weidman operated a farm in this county until 1917, when he
and his family moved to Red Oak and he took over an insurance
agency. He was a member of the Evangelical church.

SERVICES TODAY for MRS. CARPENTER, 91
Mrs. Carpenter died July 1st, 1948
and
is buried in Lowman Cemetery
Services were held today at the Sellergren Funeral Home for
Mrs. Susan Jane Carpenter, 91, who died Thursday July 1, in
Council Bluffs after a two and one-half year illness.
Rev. William Lee of Elliott officiated. Music was by Mrs.
Orrin Carmichael. Bearers were Ray Van Buskirk, Frank Mellot,
James Good, Carl Johnson, Arthur Peterson and Emil Peterson.
The daughter of David and Abby (Sprague) Taft, she was born
near Stennett Dec. 3, 1857. She was married twice, to B.F. Laire
and W. H. Carpenter.
A member of the Union Church at Stennett, she is survived by a
stepson, Earl Carpenter of Red Oak; six grandchildren, Mrs. Glen
Gilchrist of Alliance, NE, Mrs. Glen Woods , Loring Laire, Mervin
Laire, Gerald Laire and Newell Laire, all of Red Oak.

SUDDEN DEATH OF
HARRY M. LAIRE, 63
Well-known native of Montgomery
County Dies of Heart Attack on
Saturday Afternoon, Oct. 6
The death of
Harry M. Laire occurred Saturday afternoon as he and Mrs. Laire were
driving home from the ice plant. He was suddenly seized with
distress and Mrs. Laire took the wheel, but a short time afterward
he became unconscious and soon passed away. He had been known to
have heart trouble.
Mr. Laire was born in this county April 28, 1882, a son of B.F.
and Susan Laire, and had spent his entire life in this community.
He was united in marriage to Essie Wilson of Griswold, who
survives, on July 22, 1916 at Omaha. NE. Six children include Mrs.
Glenn Gilchrist of Alliance, NE, Loring and Newell in the Armed
Forces, Mervin, Jerold and Awanda at home. He is also survived by
his aged mother Susan J. Carpenter; one grandchild, Barbara Ann
Gilchrist; three half brothers, Paul and Joe of Vinita, OK. And Pete
in the Armed Forces; and a half sister, Lois Gibson, of Spokane, WA.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 9, at 2:30
from the Boileau & Thomas Garden Chapel, Rev. Guy J. Fansher
officiating. Pallbearers were James Good, Dallas Bills, Robert
Ackerman, E.W. Erickson, Arthur Peterson, and Frank Mellott. Music
was by Mrs. Helen Jones and Mrs. Minnie Todtleben with Mrs. Harry
Turner accompanist. Burial was in the
Lowman Cemetery east of
Elliott. |

WILLIAM A. WESTOVER DIED TUESDAY
Services Will Be Held in Grant Friday.
William A. Westover, 64, brother of Mrs. W. A. Focht, of
Red Oak, and a tenant on the Wm. Gardener ranch two miles
southwest of Grant, died at his homes Tuesday evening at 7:30
o'clock from heart trouble. Mr. Westover had been in ill health
for the past year and a half. His late illness confined him to his
bed since Friday, August 21.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the home at
2 o'clock and at the Methodist Church in Grant at 2:30 o'clock in
charge of Rev. Breeding, of Lewis, a former pastor of the Grant
Church. Serving as pallbearers will be George W. Stinemates, A.C.
Stinemates, Fred Kenworthy, Earl Coucier, Ralph Gridley, and Jake
Miller, of Grant and vicinity. Burial will be in the
Grant

William A. Westover was born in Austin, MN, June 3, 1872, a
son of Mr. and Mrs. John Westover. He came with his parents to
Iowa in 1890, locating in northeastern Montgomery County. August
4, 1902, he was married at Red Oak to Mirtle Copeland. Shortly
after their marriage they located on the Wm. Gardner ranch near
Grant which has been their home for the past 33 years. Mr.
Westover was a member of the Church of Christ.
Besides his widow, Mrs. Mirtle Westover, he is survived by two
sons and five daughters. They are Fred Westover and William
Westover Jr. living near Grant; Mrs. Albert Adams, of Elliott;
Mrs. George Courcier, of Grant; Mrs. Goldie Weston, of Grant; Mrs.
Harry Weston of Jefferson, Oregon; and Mrs. Ted Weston, of Grant,
and 24 grandchildren. Two children are deceased. He is also
survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. William A. Focht, of
Red Oak; Mrs. Anna Disdrow, of Rydgate, Montana and Edward
Westover, of Waukau, Wisconsin.

retired farmer, lifelong resident of Montgomery County, native of
Elliott; at Red Oak, Services at Perryman-Nelson Chapel, Red Oak.
Survivors: wife, Delia; 5 daughters, Mrs. Ernest Waage, Mrs. Roy
Hagglund and Mrs. Vincent Messner, all of Red Oak; Mrs. John
Coulter, Whittier, CA; and Mrs. Al Blengno, San Mateo, CA; sons,
Charles, Red Oak; Marion, Compton, CA; and Wayne, Long Beach, CA;
17 grandchildren, one great grandchild.
