THE RED OAK EXPRESS, Red Oak, Iowa,  12 Mar 1886

William Archer

Archer - February 27, 1886, at his residence, about nine miles north-west of Red Oak, Mr. William Archer, aged 70 years, 9 months and 5 days.

Mr. Archer and family came to Red Oak at the commencement of the town, and was engaged in the hotel business for a number of years.  About seven years ago he transferred his interests to Sherman township, when he controlled a large tract of land.  Mr. Archer had been in bad health for more than a year, and on Saturday death claimed him as a victim.  A widow, two sons and two daughters mourn his absence.  The funeral services will be held Monday, March 1, 1886 at his residence.  His remains were followed to the Red Oak cemetery by a large number of relatives and friends.  God has promised to be the widow's shield and the orphan's stay.  This is a truth that this afflicted family can appropriate to themselves, and from which they can get much solid comfort.  Mr. Archer left his family in good material circumstances, and this speaks well, if rightly gained, for and husband and father.  W.
