Funeral for Mrs. Joseph Smith at Pilot Grove

      Elliott, April 30—Funeral services for Mrs. Joseph Smith, who died Tuesday at her home in Pilot Grove, were held yesterday at Pilot Grove church, with Rev. M. A. Banker in charge. Burial was in Pilot Grove cemetery. While Mrs. Smith had been ailing all winter, she was seriously sick only a few days previous to her death. Death was caused by goiter and complications.

      Singing at the funeral was by Arvilla Thompson and Mrs. Bernice Boyer, with Mrs. Lyle Kinney at the piano. Pallbearers were Lester Humphrey, Walter Buss, Paul Bruce, Ed Bruce, S. Somerhalter, Gottfried Schmid, W. H. Petty, Louis West.

      Ellen Patterson, daughter of John and Elizabeth Patterson, was born Oct. 31, 1870, at Avon, Ill. She was married in Red Oak, Feb. 28, 1894, to Joseph Smith and has lived in the Red Oak and Emerson vicinities since that time.

      She is survived by her husband and five daughters, Mrs. Nellie Finley and Mrs. Bessie Miller, Stanton; Mrs. Elizabeth Stillinger, Villisca; Mary and Josephine at home. Two sisters also survive. They are Miss Jessie Patterson, Ashby, Minn., and Mrs. May Archer, Springview, Neb.
