V. L. Silkett, 75, Dies Christmas Day

of this County Since 1881.

FOUR CHILDREN SURVIVE

Vernon LeRoy Silkett, 75, a prominent resident of Montgomery county
since 1881, died at 11:10 Christmas morning at his home, 205 First-ave.
His death resulted from a sudden attack of apoplexy.
Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. yesterday at the Sellergren
Funeral home, with Rev. Geo. Rogers, Baptist minister, in charge. Burial
was in Frankfort cemetery.
Vernon L. Silkett was born January 13, 1858, a son of Joel and Matilda
Silkett, then residing in Monroe county, Iowa. In 1881, Mr. Silkett
moved to this county, and became engaged in carpentry and farming. He
was married to Frances A. Buffon at Red Oak, Dec. 12, 1886. Four years
ago, he moved in Red Oak and has since lived here.
Surviving children are: Herbert L. Silkett, Norfolk, Neb.; Frances Mary
Reed, Orland, Calif.; Howard V. Silkett, Norfolk, Neb. Four sons died in
infancy. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Clara Jones, of Iola, Kansas,
and three brothers: A. C. Silkett, Red Oak; V. L. Silkett, Downs,
Kansas; and G. G. Silkett, Griswold.
