Jacob Roth Dead.
Jacob
Roth, a resident of Montgomery county since 1875, died at 10:15 Tuesday
evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Yost. He had been in
failing health for some time but had been bedfast only a couple of
weeks. Death was due to old age. Mr. Roth was born in Wayne county,
Ohio, February 18, 1837. He was married November 22, 1867 at Salem,
Iowa, to Miss Susana Baldosier. Mrs. Roth died in Red Oak about eight
years ago. To this union were born 13 children; six of them surviving
are: Mrs. I. W. Smith, Mrs. John Ewaldt, Mrs. Fred Yost and Lou Roth of
Red Oak; Ira Roth, of Haxtun, Colo., and Sylvia Roth of Pueblo, Colo. He
is also survived by one brother, M. V. Roth, of Villisca, and one sister
Mrs. Kate Repp, of Seward, Neb. Mr. Roth moved to this county in 1875,
first living on a farm near Stanton and he lived in Stanton for several
years also. He moved to Red Oak, 16 years ago. Funeral services were
held at 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon at the Evangelical church, Rev.
Mitchel having charge of the services. Members of the church choir sang.
Interment was made in the
Evergreen cemetery.
The friends who acted as pallbearers were: M. P. Giles, I. Dilley, Wm.
Focht, W. A. Harding, F. W. Dixon, and J. B. Graves. Relatives who were
here from a distance to attend the funeral were M. V. Roth of Villisca,
Mrs. W. E. Stratton, Mrs. Logan Barker and Viola Neal, of Omaha, and
Mrs. Walter Neal of Cedar Rapids. The children were all here at the time
of his death. Mr. Roth was a widely known man throughout the county and
had many friends who will regret to learn of his death and who extend
sympathy to the relatives.
