DEATH OF REV.
CAMPBELL
A Much Beloved Pastor Passes Away
at His Home in Villisca
--------
Villisca, April 2 -- Rev. J. F. Campbell,
for many years a minister of the M. E. church in
Southwestern Iowa, died at his home in Villisca last
Friday morning. He had been feeble for some time, but
did not become critically ill until a week or two
before his death. Rev. Campbell was born in Edgar
county, Ill., Jan 9, 1831, and after his 20th year was a
teacher for 20 years in the schools of the county.
He moved from Illinois to Wisconsin in 1872, from there
to Springfield, Mo., five years later, and in 1878 came
to Iowa, locating in Page county. He became a
minister in 1881 and was successful in the ministry. He
had been a resident of Villisca since 1899. He was very
kindly and sympathetic and social. Mrs. Campbell
and four children, two sons and two daughters, survive
him. He was a member of the Villisca lodge of
Masons and was buried with Masonic honors. The
funeral services were held in the M. E. church on Sunday
afternoon and were very largely attended. Rev. Dudley
was assisted in the services by Rev. McDade of Creston
and rev. Harris of Greenfield. |
