Colonel William T. Figg, who for thirty five years made his home in Red Oak, passed away on Sunday evening, September 13, death being due to paralysis. He was taken to the Red Oak hospital on Thursday morning of last week, following the paralytic stroke of Wednesday with the hope that skilled attention might restore him to health, but such seemed impossible and the end came Sunday evening.

Colonel Figg was born April 4, 1836 at Lewisville, KY, and died at the age of seventy eight years. He was never married, and is the last member of a family of seven children. He came from Aquawka, Illinois, to Montgomery County in 1874, locating first at Hawthorne where for several years he was engaged in the mercantile business. He was also a farmer for a number of years.

He was a member of the M. E. Church and was also a Mason of high rank. He served three years in the Civil War, enlisting in Company F, 16th Ill. Infantry, gaining the rank of colonel during his service.

The funeral was held at the M.E. church at 10 o'clock on Wednesday morning, Rev. F. N. Willis conducting the service. The pall bearers were W. S. Ellis, John Wright, A. M. Hawkins, W. W. Montgomery, W. J. Roberts and F. S. Schadel. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery
