F. M. Douglass, another old Adams County citizen and veteran of the Civil War,
passed away Tuesday noon at the old soldiers home at Marshalltown, following a
few days illness of pneumonia. He had for years been in bad health, from the
effects of his days of service in the South during the war and was in a rather
weakened condition and unable to cope with his late illness.
His body was brought to Prescott where the funeral was held yesterday (Friday)
morning at 10, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Winnie Lane, and the body was
taken to Red Oak where interment was made. The pallbearers were old Red Oak
friends of the deceased gentleman.
Francis Marion Douglass was born August 6, 1844, in Menden, Michigan, where he
grew to manhood. Here he enlisted in the 6th Regiment of Michigan, Co. C, and
served until in 1865 when he was mustered out at New Orleans, LA.
In 1871, he came to Iowa and settled in Montgomery County, where he was married
to Miss Minnie Humes, June 6, 1875. To them the following children were born:
Wilford Douglass of McGregor, Minn.; Claude and William (Billie) Douglass and
Mrs. Maggie Pentico, all residing at Allen, Nebraska; Mrs. Winnie Lace of
Prescott, Mrs. Stella Bone of Red Oak. Besides his wife and children, he
leaves seven grandchildren.
The family resided in Montgomery County until 1894, then removing to Wayne
County Nebraska where they lived six years, then to Red Oak, later to Corning,
Nodaway and Prescott, leaving last August for Marshaltown where his death
occurred.
