Stanton, April 20, 1944:
A group of relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Wallin Saturday evening to celebrate
their 67th wedding anniversary. They received gifts of cards and flowers. They had the pleasure of having two of their children with
them for the event--Miss Mayme Wallin, who stays at home, and their son, Alvin Wallin, who with his daughter Lavose, came from Los
Angeles, California to celebrate the event. Their other two children; Carl Wallin lives in Los Angeles, and Vance Wallin in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Refreshments were served from the dining room table, which was laid with a lace cloth and centered with a bouquet of cut flowers
and pink tapers. Their granddaughter, Miss Lavose Wallin, served as dining room hostess. A few remarks by Rev. A. Leonard Smith
and a prayer, and group singing, accompanied by Miss Lavose Wallin, constituted the brief program rendered.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallin, 90 and 86 years old, respectively, have the distinction of being the oldest married couple in the community,
and have been members of the Lutheran church since 1882. They were married in Bethesda April 15, 1877, by Rev. B. M. Halland,
and after residing on a farm near there for five years, moved to Stanton in 1882, and have lived at their home near the Lutheran
church for the past 62 years. Besides their four children they have three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. About 30 guests
were present to enjoy the event.
