Records are for people who paid the tax, not people who received a pension. The Old Age Assistance Act authorized a $1 per capita levy for 1934. The levy for 1935 was $2 per capita.

1930 population for Monroe county was 15,010. Of those 1,406 were 65 years or older. The state office had received a total of 423 applications for assistance by June 30, 1935. 78 applications had been approved for the fiscal year and 2 of the recipients died during the year. In June 1935 a total of $990 was paid for an average of $13.08 per recipient. There were a total of 8,634 people liable to pay tax per the 1930 census. Of the 1934 levy $6,639 was collected by June 30 1935. For the 1935 levy $9,776.62 was collected by the same date.
