Of Albia, Monroe county, Representative from the Sixth District, composed of
the counties of Davis, Jasper, Keokuk, Mahaska, Monroe, Poweshiek, and Wapello,
was born
at Greenville, Lucas county, Iowa, March 17, 1868; has no education except that acquired in
the rural schools of that county; was married April 20, 1896, to Miss Belle Wooden of
Centerville, Iowa; is a lawyer by profession; served two terms (1893-1897) as County
Attorney of Monroe county, Iowa, and five terms (1899-1909) as Representative from
Monroe county in the General Assembly of Iowa, the last term as speaker of the House; was
elected to the Sixty-first Congress November 3, 1908.
