Obituary
Stephen Quick, second son of Mr. And Mrs. Henry Quick, was born in the city of New York, June 5, 1863 and passed away at the home of Fred E. Everett on Benton Avenue East, Albia, Iowa, June 10, 1928, being 65 years and 5 days old at the time of his death.
His father was killed in the Civil War and his mother died one month later, leaving Stephen an orphan at the tender age of six months. Stephen had a brother who was three years old at that time. They were taken to the Soldiers Home in New York, where Stephen remained until he was ten years old. Then he, in a company of some forty boys and girls were brought to Albia, Iowa, where homes were found for them. It was Stephen’s good fortune to have been placed in the home of Mr. And Mrs. William Parry, who resided east of Albia. He spent some eleven years in this good Christian home, and under their teaching and example he became a Christian man and united with the M. E. Church on Miller Ridge in 1892, and was a faithful Christian ever after. He loved the church and Bible School services and was a regular attendant of the men’s bible class of the Church of Christ in Albia. He was very kind to old people and loved little children most dearly. With the exception of one year spent in North Dakota, he resided in this community fifty-five years.
It can be said: "A good man has gone to his reward." "Blessed are the dead who died in the Lord, for they rest from their labors and their works do follow them."
Funeral services were held from the Albia Christian Church, Tuesday, June 12, at 2 o’clock. Rev. B. W. Pettit, who had charge, spoke on the subject of "Burden Bearing and Christian Benevolences." Mr. And Mrs. Bobby Wilkinson had charge of the music. Many beautiful flowers were contributed by his friends. Burial was in the Smith Cemetery, six miles east of Albia, to await the last call.
