Hattie Riddle Obituary
Died, at her home in Blakesburg, in the early morning of April 10th, Mrs. Hattie Riddle, wife of J. T. Riddle. Mrs. Riddle had been in failing health for three or four years, and a severe sufferer for about three weeks, her malady having developed into cancer of the stomach. Mrs. Riddle was raised on Miller’s Ridge, her father being the late A.F. Miller. Two of her brothers and one sister still live here; one sister, Mrs. T.P. Ames, lives near Tyrone, and a brother, W.S. Miller, lives in Chariton county, Kansas. Mrs. Riddle was a member of the M.E. church, having spent a great many years of her life in the service of the Master. She was ready to answer the summons, although she would like to have lived longer had God so willed it. We feel that our loss is her gain, and we realize that:
Silent the feet of the years ever speed In the path that so long they have trod; Only a step from morn until noon, And the evening is following fast; It is only a step from the cradle of birth To the end of a life that is past; Only a step from the morn, so fair, ‘Til the heart of age grows cold, And only a step to silvery hair, From the auburn and from the gold. Only a while to be loyal and brave, Toiling onward where others have trod; Only sleeping awhile in the low, peaceful grave, Then, to stand in the judgment of God; Then all the deeds of the years that run, Swiftly all life’s journey through, Will meet us at last, when life’s work is past, And we’re judged for what’er we do.
