TO MARK GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY


Mr. and Mrs. Harry Reckner of rural Osage will observe their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, January 17, 1971, with an open house reception at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville.

Relatives and friends may greet the honorees between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m. The couple's children will host the event.

Alvina Rieken and Harry Reckner were married on January 12, 1921, in Riceville and lived all of their married life in the Osage vicinity. They are the parents of three children: Mrs. Howard (Mavis) Wieland of Osage, Dale of Rock Falls, and Mrs. Allan (Shirley) of Osage. They also have four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

ALFRED KITTLESONS
MARK ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Kittleson of Mona, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Friday.

Olga Johnson and Alfred Kittleson were married on February 12, 1921, at the ome of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Johnson, with Rev. M. E. Waldeland officiating.

The couple lived in St. Ansgar and also on a farm near St. Ansgar until retirement to Mona in 1961.

They have a daughter, Mrs. Dan (Wanda) Attlesey of Austin and five grandchildren.

NOTE ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. Art Herman of rural Osage will be celebrating their silver wedding anniversary Sunday, Valentine's Day. They were married at Greene, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, but the Rev. P. Boyle, on February 14, 1946.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman are the parents of two children, Marilyn who is employed in Mason City, and Mike, an employee of Winnebago Industries in Forest City.

MR. AND MRS. HENRY HORGEN NOTE
65TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Horgen of Osage celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Friday at Memorial Hospital in Oage. They were presented an anniversary case by the hospital kitchen staff, and the Osage Medical Group gave them a boutonniere and corsage which they wore for the occasion.

Their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Horgen of Calmar, arrived Sunday, bringing with them another anniversary cake.

Bertha Helling and Henry Horgen were married on March 26, 1906, at the parsonage of the Osage (Our Saviors) Lutheran Chruch. Their family includes . . . Melburn of Las Vegas, Nevada; Bernard of Calmar; Robert Horgen and Mrs. Irene Horgen Lewis of Carbondale, Illinois.

Mr. Horgen recalls that he is the only living person in Mitchell county who hauled grist to the Mitchell flour mill, coming from his farm near Orchard. The trip took two days by team and wagon.

The Horgens have been confined to the hospital since she suffered a broken him in a fall on February 2.

Mr. and Mrs. Philip McKinley of St. Ansgar announce the engagement of their daughter, Ann, to Mr. Bradley Randall, son of Dr. and Mrs. W.L. Randall of Naples, Florida, and formerly of Hampton.

Miss McKinley will be a senior at the University of Iowa where her fiance will be attending medical school next fall.

A July 31 wedding is planned.

ENGAGED

Mr. and Mrs. William Arthur Garner of Fort Madison announce the engagement and July 31 wedding of their daughter, Mary Katherine to Arlyn Ray Hartwig, son of Mrs. Raymond A. Hartwig of St. Ansgar and the late Mr. Hartwig.

Miss Garner attended Drake Univ. and the Univ. of Iowa, and is currently employed in Davenport. Her fiance attended Austin State Junior College and the University of Iowa. He is employed as a salesman for the Moore Business Forms, in Davenport.

Harry Blanchard


Mr. and Mrs. Harry Blanchard will be honored at an open house on Sunday, April 18, 1971. The event is their golden wedding anniversary and will take place at their home. Hosts will be their children and spouses, Mr. and Mrs. John (Grace) Hert of Mason City, and Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Blanchard of Osage.

Grace Tatman was united in marriage to Harry Blanchard on April 17, 1921, at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Nora[?] Tatman Davis in Namaha, Iowa, by Rev. W. E. Ellison, pastor of the Methodist church. Wittnessing the ceremony were Hazel[?] Blanchard and Jacob Peterson, now Mr. and Mrs. Peterson.

The Blanchards have two children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

MR. AND MRS. JOE DEAN TO
CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDING
ANNIVERSARY SUNDAY

An open house honoring Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Dean on their 50th wedding anniversary will be held at their home on sunday, June 6, 1971.

Hosting the event will be their children, Richard Dean, Mrs. Robert Hartwig (Bernice), and Mrs. Gordon Haugen (Lois); and their spouses.

Leona Miller and Joseph Dean were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Miller in St. Ansgar, June 5, 1921. Their attendants were a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law of the bride, Mrs. Lydia Miller and Henry Intorf.

They established their home in St. Ansgar where Mr. Dean was telegraph operator for the Illinois Central railroad until 1927. That year they moved to Osage where Mr. Dean managed the Cedar Valley Egg station until 1935. They ownee and operated a grocery store until he was elected county auditor, which position he held until 1969. Since that time he has been semi-retired, doing work with the county office assisting.

TO CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDING SUNDAY

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. Simon of Stacyville will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 13.

The day will begin with an anniversary Mass at Visitation Catholic Church, followed by a family dinner in the parish dining hall. An open house will be held at the dining hall from 2-4 p.m. The nine children of the couple will be hosts for the reception.

Joseph Simon and Christina Halfman were married on May 24, 1921 at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, by Rev. Scheuter. Their attendants were Joe Halfman and Balbina (Simon) Juenger.

They are the parents of five daughters and four sons: Marian (Mrs. Stan) Leonaitis, North Chicago; Kathryn, Minneapolis; Helen (Mrs. Charles) Church, Osage; Arlene (Mrs. Robert) Hartnell, and Mrs. Jeanne Ethen of Austin; Marvin, Waterloo; Laverne, Stacyville; Wilbur, Little Cedar, and Kenneth of Waterloo. There are twenty eight grandchildren.

OPEN HOUSE RECEPTION

An open house is planned for Sunday, June 13, 1971, to honor Mr. and Mrs. Donald Spitz of Osage, on their silver wedding anniversary. Friends and relatives may greet them between 2 and 4 p.m. in the clubrooms of the Home Trust bank.

Elizabeth Juenger and Donald Spitz were married in Stacyville on June 18, 1946. They lived in Osage all their married life. Mr. Spitz has been with the Co-op Oil company since January 19, 1946, joining the company soon after receiving his discharge from the service.

Mr. and Mrs. Spitz are the parents of two sons, David in the air force at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma, and Richard, at home.

Mr. and Mrs. Hubert During of Osage will be honored at an open house Sunday, June 13, 1971, in observance of their golden wedding anniversary. Family and Friends may greet them between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Hosts for the reception will be the couple's children: Mrs. Donald Hutzel (Ruth) of Bancroft; Mrs. Rufus Ginder (Helen) of Mason City; Lawrence of Marshalltown, and their spouses.

The Durings have 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

EXCHANGE MARRIAGE VOWS JULY 10

Patricia Maxine Hofer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Hofer of Salton, South Dakota, and Edward Paul Dieterichs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dieterichs of Osage, exchanged vows of marriage on Saturday, July 10, 1971, in an evening ceremony.

Rev. E. Fretheim performed the rites. She was given in marriage by her father. Best men were Dave Rowe of Osage and John Dieterichs of Hastings, Minnesota, brother of the bridegroom.

Mr. and Mrs. Dieterichs area now making their home on Jefferson in Mason City, iowa, where the bridegroom is employed by the Milwaukee Railroad. He is a graduate of Osage Community high school and is a veteran. His bride is a graduate of the Freeman, South Dakota high school and the South Dakota hairstyling academy.

Mr. Wilford Hansen of Jackson, Minnesota, announces the engagement and forthcoming marriage of his daughter, Rose, to Brad Perau, whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. Albin Perau of St. Ansgar.

Miss Hansen, a graduate of Jackson high school, is now a senior at Mankato State college. Mr. Perau, a graduate of St. Ansgar high school and Mankato State, is now employed by Reichal and Sons of Mankato.

Relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Andrews honored them Sunday at a belated celebration of their golden wedding anniversary. The event took place at their farm home.

Rosella Klemesrud and Harold Andrews were married on March 1, 1921, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage. They have continued to live on the family farm near Orchard were Mr. Andrews was born.

Verla Stocks and Richard Lewis were married at the rural Charles City home of her parents, August 4, 1946. The couple farms south of New Haven.

They are parents of five children: James of Cedar Falls, Gerald of Tarawa Terrace, North Caroline, and Aline, Carol and Rita, at home. They have five grandchildren.

Leo Hartwig and Anna Bethke were married on September 4, 1921 at Emanuel Lutheran church in Grafton, by Rev. C. Landdeck. They are the parents of three daughters: Mrs. William (Jeannette) Neuman, St. Ansgar; Mrs. William (Lucille) Scharper, Osage; and Mrs. Lee (Lois Ann) Dutcher, Manly.

They also have eight grandchidlren and three great-grandchildren.

Anna Broers and Arthur Bartz were united in marriage on November 14, 1941, at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City. The farmed near Grafton until moving to the Osage area 32 years ago.

The family of Mr. and Mrs. Bartz includes: Mrs. John Marion (Laverna) of Aurora, Illinois, Mrs. Wayne Solomon (Phyllis) of Mason City, Roger of Riceville, Harold and Otto, at home; and 11 grandchildren.

Doris Jean Hackenmiller, daughter of Rudy and Marcella Hackenmiller of Stacyville, and John Charles Taets, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Taets of Osage, were united in marriage on Saturday, September 27, 1986, at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. Father C. Manternach and Father Connolly officiated at the afternoon double ring ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her father.

A dinner reception was held at the Visitation Hall following the ceremony, with a dance at the V.F.W. in Osage.

The bride is a graduate of St. Ansgar High School. She is employed as a Laboratory Technician for Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

The groom is a graduate of Osage High School and Iowa State University. He is employed by Farm Credit Banks in Rochester, Minnesota.

The couple will make their home in Rochester.

Hosts will be their daughters: Mrs. Melvin (Myrna) Davis of Mason City, Mrs. Mickey (Marilyn) Halverson of Geneseo, Illinois, and their son, Dennis Bray of Austin. There are nine grandchildren.

Genevieve Larson and Alvin Bray were married on February 22, 1931 at the home of her parents in Fertile.

They farmed near Hanlontown for 30 years, and for 20 years northeast of Osage, where they presently live.

The 53rd wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wherry of Osage will be observed on Tuesday, March 10, 1981. No special celebration is planned for the event.

Laura Lindley and Ralph Wherry were married on March 10, 1928, in Minneapolis. The Osage area has remained their home.

Their family includes two sons and their wifes, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Wherry of Osage and Marvin of Waukegan, Illinois; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Roberts celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary Saturday, with no special observance planned.

Vera Wright and Clinton Roberts were married on March 28, 1917. They farmed near Orchard from 1936 until their retirement to their present home in Osage in 1972.

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. George Badker Sr., of Osage, Iowa, will be celebrated with an open house on Sunday, March 22, 1981. The honorees may be greeted between the hours of 2 and 5 o'clock in the afternoon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Hall.

Hosting the event will be the couples nine children. There are also 38 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Florence Dargan and George Badker were united in marriage on March 19, 1931, in Adams, Minnesota.

LENARD CAMERONS TO BE FETED ON GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. Lenard Cameron will observe their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house on Sunday afternoon, April 12, 1981. They may be greeted in the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church in Osage.

Hosts for the occasion wil be their children and spouses, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Cameron of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Carlin Counsell (Beverly) of Cresco, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Cameron of Glenside, Penn., and Mrs. Cheryl Norby of Iowa City. They have 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Gertrude Jergensen and Lenard Cameron were united in marriage in Emmetsburg, Iowa, on April 11, 1931.

65th Wedding Anniversary article

Mr. and Mrs. Eugene D. Adams of rural Osage celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Sunday, April 3 at home with their family, Mr. and Mrs. Alec (Arlene) Welch, Kerkhoven, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Joe (Lorraine) Sprio, Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Harold (Evelyn) Miller, Monroe, Wisc., and granddaughter Michelle Sprio, Waterloo.

They received a congratulatory phone call in the afternoon from their grandson and family, SSG Steven D. Miller stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Laura Sonberg and Eugene Adams were married April 3, 1918 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Sonberg near St. Ansgar.

They have three daughters, ten grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Novotny's Celebrate 50th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. John L. Novotny celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on February 14, 1983.

Ida Pint and John Novotny were married on February 14, 1933, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, Iowa.

Mr. Novotny was employed by the Mitchell County Roads Department and his wife was employed by Cedar Valley Produce.

They are the parents of Mrs. A.E. (Dolores) Dickson, Des Moines; Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Hess, Kansas City, Missouri; Mrs. Larry (Sandy) Klosterman, Davenport; and Mrs. Berle (Sheila) Freeman, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There are five grandchildren.

Alvin Alden


DOUGHERTY -- Miss Marie Mullen daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Mullen of Dougherty, and Alvin Alden, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Alden of Osage, were married in St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Saturday by the Rev. J. J. Collins.

Sister M .Archangela played the march and hymns were sung during the nuptial mass by Pat Boyle, Virgil Mullen and Mrs. R. E. Murphy.

The couple was attended by Earl Campbell, a cousin of the bride, and Lucille Gracker.

After the ceremony a breakfast was served to members of the immediate families at the home of the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Barbara Forrett.

Upon their return from a short trip, they will make their home in Sheffield.

Marion and Marilyn Wyant observed their 40th Wedding Anniversary on March 1, 1993.

On Sunday, May 2, their children, spouses and grandchildren, Larry, Teri, Carissa and Cassie Wyant of Cresco; Jeffrey, Cathy and Matthew Wyant of Plainfield; Brad, Julie and Becky Carlson of Rochester, Minnesota; and Debbie, LuAnn and Douglass Wyant of Lime Springs will host an Open House from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Immaculate Chatholic Church Hall in Riceville.

The couple were married March 1, 1953 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lamont, Iowa with Reverend Joseph Bohr officiating. They request no gifts, just your presence.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jensen of McIntire are announcing the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Barbara Fay to David Leo Kasel. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Kasel of rural Taopi, Minnesota. A June 4th wedding is planned at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams. Miss Jensen is a student at the University of North Iowa and Dan is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, and is engaged in dairy farming.

& Willis Madison


THE WILLIS MADISONS TO
OBSERVE GOLDEN WEDDING

Mr. and Mrs. Willis A. Madison will observe their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, March 28, 1943, and will hold an open house for their relatives and friends at 532 Ash street in the afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Mrs. Madison's mother, Mrs. Anna Smalley, will be present; in fact the Madisons live in Mrs. Smalley's home and care for her. Mrs. Smalley, although 85 years of age, is well and active, and is eagerly looking forward to the event.

Willis A. Madison and Georgia Smalley were married on March 28, 1893, by the Rev. Gist, at the Congregational parsonage in Osage. Those who witnessed the ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. Gill Madison and daughter, Ethel.

Mrs. Gill Madison died some time ago and word from Gill is that he is ill and will not be able to come from his home in Staples, Minnesota, for the event.

The Madisons lived at Mason City for about 20 years, but the rest of their wedded life has been spent in Osage. They are parents of five children -- Merle A. Madison, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Mrs. Charles Jeffries, Osage; Mrs. J.E. Faktor and David H. Madison of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Mrs. Newell Hugi of Mason City. There are three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. f

Merle Madison, Mr. and Mrs. H. Madison and Mrs. J.E. Faktor came today to visit and help their parents celebrate the happy event.

Sunday evening at 7:30, at the First Lutheran Church occurred the marriage of Miss Carol Sponheim, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Selmer Sponheim, and Leland Feldt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Feldt, at a candle-light service, with the Rev. O.A. Langeough officiating in the double-ring service.

Mrs. Howard Madsen was the matron of honor; Agnes Sponheim, Bridesmaid, and Marlys Sponheim, junior bridesmaid. Kenneth Meyer, Lyle and Howard Madsen were the groom's attendants.

Katherine Rust sang two selections, "Because," and "The Lord's Prayer" with Mary Elaine Langehough presiding at the organ.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the bride's home, with the immediate relatives in attendance. [truncated]
