HENRY BRANDAUS HONORED
ON 40TH ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brandau of Osage, Iowa, were pleasantly surprised last Wednesday at their home on their 40th wedding anniversary. About 30 relatives and friends attended. A social evening was spent.

Minnie Ahrens and Henry Brandau were married on March 16, 1909, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ahrens, southwest of Osage. The Brandaus have seven children, three of whom were present Wednesday. Those present were Edgar and Mrs. Ruth Ploeger of Floyd and Erwin of Rudd. The others are Robert of Burlington, Leona of Rochester, Mars Katherine Towley of Iowa Falls, and Mrs. Lillian Champion of Mt. Leonard, Missouri. Four of the nine gandchildren were also at the celebration Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvan Hemann of McIntire have announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Lucella, to Jerome Michels, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roman Michels of Stacyville.

Miss Hemann is employed at Kelly's Cafe in Osage and Mr. Michels by Pitzen Brothers of Stacyville.

EXCHANGED IN ROCHESTER

Loreen Viola Cooper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cooper of Osage, and Elmer Wilde, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wilde of Mitchell, exchnaged nuptial vows on Monday, February 14, 1949, at the Evangelical lutheran Church in Rochester, Minnesota. Rev. O. Maakestad read the double ring ceremony.

The bride wore a blue gabardine suit with white accessories and a yellow rosebud corsage. She was attended by her sister, Darlene Cooper of Mason City. . .

Irvin Wilde of Mitchell, brother of the groom, was best man.

Mrs. Wilde has been a student in the Little cedar schools and Mr. Wilde has been assisting with the farm work on his father's farm. The couple will live on the groom's farm west of Mitchell.

OF HENRY KLUG, OMAHA

The wedding of Miss Mary Spartz of Omaha, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Spartz of Stacyville, and Henry G. Klug of Omaha, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Klug of Reeseville, Wisconsin, took place on Monday morning at Visitation Church in Stacyville, Iowa. Rev. V. Hintgen performed the double ring ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her father.

Miss Eileen Spartz was maid of honor, and Miss Ruth Spartz was junior bridesmaid.

Paul and Joseph Spartz, brothers of the bride, were attendants. John Spartz, Jr., was usher.

The couple will be at home in Omaha, following a trip South.

SGT. PHILLIP DIAZ IS
MARRIED IN NOME, ALASKA

Betty Mitchell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy C. Mitchell of Hope, Alaska, and Master Sergeant Phillips Diaz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Baldo Diaz of Osage, were married in the Marks field chapel at Nome, Alaska, Thursday, February 10, 1949. Chaplain A. Darling read the double ring ceremony.

Bobbie Whitten was maid of honor and Jane Sniffen and Mrs. Lloyd Gifford were bridesmaids. Sgt. Lloyd Gifford was best man.

Mrs. Diaz has been stationed at the Marks air force base the last three years and has served as private secretary to the commanding officer. Sgt. Diaz graduated from the Osage high school and was in the service for five years, including overseas duty. He was discharged in 1946, re-enlisted in 1947, and has been in Alaska since December 1947.

Sgt. and Mrs. Diaz are making their home in Nome.

FORMER RESIDENT MARRIED
IN BETHESDA, MARYLAND

Friends of former residents, the B.K. McIlnays, will be interested to learn of the marriage of their eldest daughter, Ruth, to Frank Herbert of Washington, D.C. The ceremony took place on February 14, 1949, at the Methodist church in Bethesda, Maryland. Attending the bride and groom were Mr. and Mrs Bill Wilson, also of Washington. Mrs. Wilson is the former Mary Frank, who was a fellow teacher of Mrs. Herbert's in the McIntire school at one time.

After a motor trip through the South, the couple will be at home in Arlington, Virginia.

EXCHANGED MONDAY

Glenna Godfrey, daughter of Mrs. Olga Godfrey of Osage, and James Lence, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Lence of St. Paul Park, Minnesota, exchanged nuptial vows on Monday, June 13, at the Sacred Heart church in Osage. Rev. T. Conroy read the ceremony. The bride was given by her brother, Kenneth Rucker, in the presence of friends and relatives.

She carred a white silk kerchief, brought from France by her late father, Glenn Godfrey, during World War I.

Miss Delores Kleckner was bridesmaid. Robert Lence, of New Haven, brother of the groom, was best man. A reception was held at the home of the bride's sister, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Bowers, at St. Ansgar, with the bride's aunt, mrs. Albert Anderson, and cousin, Miss Darlene Anderson, of St. Ansgar, serving.

Mrs. Lence attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls and the past year has taught in Rock No. 7 school. Mr. Lence is employed by the Minnesota Wood Craft company in St. Paul, Minn., where the couple will make their home.

Mary Alice Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Moore of Osage, and Wayne Leeman, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Leeman of Osage, exchanged nuptials vows Monday, June 13, at the Sacred Heart church in Osage. Father Mark Moore of Lourdes, the bride's brother, performed the nuptial mass and was assisted by the Rev. T. J. Conroy, pastor of Sacred Heart.

Michael Moore, brother of the bride, was best man, and Dick Moore, another brother, and Bill Frien were ushers.

A reception was held in the Sacred Heart church Parlors. The couple left for a short honeymoon and will be at home in the Bailey apartment at 913 State St.

The bride has been employed at the Cedar Valley Produce. Mr. Leeman, a veteran, is employed at Jorde Motors.

DARLENE BUTTEFIELD AND
RAYMOND BRAINERD WED

Saturday evening, June 4, 1949, Darlene Butterfield and Raymond Brainard were married in the Methodist parsonage at Riceville. Rev. Paul Brown performed the double ring ceremony. Baskets of white peonies and pastel candles in tall candelabra formed the marriage bower.

The bride was atteded by Mrs. Leslie Poesch of Postville, sister of the groom.

Guests were Mr. and Mrs. George Brainard, parents of the groom, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Smith, of Postville; Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Poesch; Mr. and Mrs. Riley Sloan; and Rev. and Mrs. Brown.

Both the bride and groom attended Upper Iowa University and both taught in Waterville the past year, Mr. Brainard in second and Mr. Brainard as coach. They will resume these positions this fall.

Ruth Marie Johanns, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Johanns of new Haven, and Robert Francis Jahnel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Jahnel of New Haven, exchanged nuptials vows on Tuesday morning, June 7, at St. Peter's church in New Haven, with the Rev. Leo Entringer reading the ceremony.

Deloris Johanns, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid.

Mr. and Mrs.
William J. Simpson


W.J. SIMPSONS HONORED
ON 59TH ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Simpson were honored Sunday, June 19, 1949, on their 59th wedding anniversary. Relatives with well-filled baskets came from Charles City, Colwell, Kensett, Riceville, and McIntire, to help them celebrate the occasion.

The Simpsons left Osage in 1911, going to Minnesota where they farmed a few years. In 1920 they went to Waterloo where he was employed by the Herricks refrigerator company. In July, 1947, they returned to Osage to make their home.

Mr. Simpson is confined to a wheel chair following a limb amputation, but both Mr. and Mrs. Simpson are enjoying fairly good health.

In a candlelight double ring ceremony Sunday evening July 10, 1949, at the First Baptist church in Osage, Mildred Randall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Randall of Osage, and Charles Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Moore of Osage, exchanged nuptial vows. The church was decorated with summer flowers and ferns, and the Rev O. Mellquist read the vows.

The bride was given by her father. Doris Randall of Osage, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids included: Mrs. Ruth Molstad of Mason City, a sister of the bride, Mrs. Kay Randall of Osage, Doreen Randall of Mason City, cousin of the bride, and Mrs. Frank Larick of Grand Forks, N. Dakota.

Daryl Moore of Osage, brother of the groom, was best man, and groomsmen were: Dean Molstad of Mason City, Ransom and Merle Randall and Earl Bruesewitz of Osage. David Randall, brother of the bride, was ring bearer.

LUTHERAN PARSONAGE FRIDAY

Last Friday, July 27, 1917, the Rev. J.A. Urnes had the pleasure of performing a double wedding ceremony, an experience that comes but seldom in a pastor's life. The couples were from Lyle, Mr. Melvin Anderson and Miss Cora Leidal, and Mr. Ole Helgeson and Miss Sadie Naverseth. The young people spent several days here, guests at the cleveland.

At 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon occurred the marriage of Mrs. Clara Gilbert, of Waterloo, and John P. Schneider, of Osage. The ceremony was performed at the home of the bride's daughter, Mrs. Frank Markham, 625 Fowler street, in the presence of a few relatives and intimate friends. Rev. H. G. Beeman, of the Walnut Street Baptist church, officiated.

The bride is well known in Waterloo having made her home here for a number of years. The groom is a respected business man of Osage, where he is engaged in the hardware business. Mr. and Mrs. Schneider have gone to Osage where they will make their home.

Carmen Goll, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Goll of Garner, Iowa, and James Wolf, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Wolf of Stacyville, Iowa, were married on February 28, 1949 at St. Boniface Rectory by the Rev. M. J. Manternach.

Elaine Goll, sister of the bride was bridesmaid and Dick Frein was best man. A wedding dinner was served at noon at Hull's cafe dining room, for close relatives and friends.

The bride is a graduate of Garner high school and is employed as deputy county auditor in Garner. Mr. Wolf is a graduate of Stacyville Visitation high school and is employed as a bookkeeper at the Hancock COunty National Bank.

Following a wedding trip the couple will live in Garner.

The bride attended the Mitchell high school and the groom is a graduate of the St. Ansgar high school and seved two years in the army. The couple will live on a farm northeast of St. Ansgar where the grooom is engaged in farming with his brother.

The bride-elect was graduated from Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, where she was affiliated with Delta Phi Delta. She has been an instructor at Titonka, Osage and Sioux City.

Mr. McSweeney attended Iowa State college at Ames. Following his discharge from service, he has been associated with his father in business.

Osage - Maryon Nielsen, daughter of Mr. anu Mrs. Harold Nielsen, Belmond, became the bride of Gerald McSweeney, son of Mr. and Mrs. John McSweeney, Jr., Osage, Monday at 9:30 a. m., at the St. Francis Church, Belmond, the Rev. R. O. Ormsby performing the double ring; ceremony.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, had Marian Cashman, Minneapolis, fellow teacher while in Osage, as the bridesmaid. Bestman was Donald Nielsen of Belmond. Flower girls were Judy and Joy Vining, twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Vining, Osage. and Jeff Hansen. son of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Hansen. Belmond, was ringbearer. Ushers were Larry Goergan of Adams, Minn., Ed Seaton. Osage, and Harold R. Nielsen. Red Bud, Ill., Margery Lou Thompson, Rolfe, an Osage teacher, sang, accompanied by Miss Maye Tracy. Miss Tracy also played the traditional wedding marches. Following the ceremony, a reception for 100 guests was held in the library basement at Belmond.

The couple left for a month's vacation in Miami, Florida, and to other points of interest in the south.

The bride was graduated from Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls, and attended the University of Minnesota. She is a member of Delta Phi Beta. She has served as an instructor at Titonka, Osage, and Sioux City.

The bridegroom attended Iowa State College, Ames. Following his discharge from the service, he has been associated with his father in business in Osage, where they will live.

ST. ANSGAR COUPLE
CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. George Adrian of St. Ansgar were honored last Thursday evening on their fortieth wedding anniversary. About 55 relatives and friends gathered at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at St. Ansgar for the occasion.

Hosts for the event were their two sons, Frederick and Wilmer, and their wives. Refreshments were served. . . .

Among the guests present were two of their attendants at the wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller. Mrs. Miller was the former Laura Troge. Mrs. Roscoe Adams of Milwaukee, Wis., and Arthur Adrian of Escalon, Calif, the other attendants at the wedding were unable to attend.

Margaret Troge and George Adrian were united in marriage on October 20, 1909, at St. John's Lutheran church at Rock Creek, by Rev. August Miller, pastor.

Mr. and Mrs. Adrian have spent their entire married lives in the vicinity of St. Ansgar. The first 35 years they were on the home place southwest of town and . . . . [Missing].

Mildred Lucille Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Johnson of Osage, and Norman Sponheim, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ingwald Sponheim of Nora Springs, exchanged nuptial vows on Sunday afternoon, October 23, at the Rock Creek Lutheran church near Osage. Rev. S. Sorlien officiated at the double ring ceremony.

Mrs. Guy Epley, Jr. of Austin, sang "God Gave Me You" and "The Lord's Prayer."

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white slipper satin gown with a fitted, beaded bodice and long pointed sleeves.

Mrs. Charles Melson of New Orleans, La., sister of the groom, was matron of honor. Dale Johnson of Osage, brother of the bride, was best man. Ushers were Charles Johnson of Osage, brother of the bride, and Morris Maakestad of Nora Springs.

Mrs. Alvy Borcherding of Grafton, sister of the bride, was in charge of gifts. Mrs. Lowall Olson of Osage, sister of the bride, was in charge of the guest book.

The couple will live on the Sponheim farm near Nora Springs, after an extended honeymoon.

Mrs. Sponheim attended Iowa State Teachers College for two years and was an instructor at Grafton for two years. Mr. Sponheim attended Iowa State college at Ames and is now farming with his father.

PATSY McWENTHY TO
MARRY ENNO ONKEN SOON

Mrs. Ivan Turnmire has announced the engagement and approaching marriage of her daughter, Patsy Hellen McWethy, to Enno Onken, Jr., son of Mr. Enno Onken, Sr. of Orchard.

Patsy attended school at Whittier, California, and moved to Osage in August of 1948. She is now employed at the Scott store.

Enno attended the Orchard school and is now employed at the Oliver plant at Charles City.

The wedding will take place December 11 at the home of the bride.

SHIRLEY FELDT WAS BRIDE
OF LAVERN FUNK SUNDAY

Shirley Ann Feldt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Feldt of Carpenter, became the bride of LaVern Funk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy C. Funk of Osage, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Sunday, December 4, 1949. Rev. F. L. Hanscom performed the double ring ceremony.

The bride was a graduate of Carpenter high school and attends Iowa State Teachers College where she is a member of Delta Delta Phi sorority. She was formerly employed by the Globe-Gazette.

The groom was graduated from the Osage high school and served 18 months in the 82nd Airborne division.

After a wedding trip the couple will be at home in Cedar Falls where he is a junior in the Iowa State Teachers College.

Margaret Fisher, daughter of Louis F. Fisher of Lawler, and John A. Hager, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Hager of LaPorte City, exchanged nuptial vows Sunday, December 4, 1949, at the home of the bride's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl F. Conway, in Osage.

The ceremony was read by the Rev. M.E. Shank of LaPorte City. Darwin Hager of Waterloo was best man.

A buffet supper was served following the ceremony. After a wedding trip, the couple will be at home in LaPorte City, Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Hans Lundene of Rudd, Iowa, have announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Ruth, to Frank Onken, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eno Onken of Orchard, Iowa.

The wedding will take place at the Osage Lutheran church on Sunday, December 18, 1949. Ruth has been employed at the Snack Shop in Osage and Frank is doing farm work.

The Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer was the setting for the December 27, 1981, marriage ceremony uniting Mary Griswold and Frank Boerjan. Performing the rite was the church pastor, the Rev. T. Carpender.

Attending the couple were the bride's daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Townshend and the bridegroom's son, August Boerjan.

The reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. August Boerjan near Riceville. The 45 guests were from Illinois, Mason City, Charles City, Osage, St. Ansgar, Milford, McIntire and Waterloo, Iowa and from Bemidji and Rochester, Minnesota.

The marriage of Kimberly Grimm of Faribault, Minnesota, and Marlin Clausen of Stacyville took place Sunday, December 21, 1980, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grimm, of Faribault. Parents of the bridegroom are mr. and Mrs. Richard Clausen of Stacyville.

Attendants for the couple were Debra Dempsey and Mike Boss.

The wedding reception was held with 35 guests including grandparents, other relatives and close friends attending.

The couple is living at Medford, Steele county, Minnesota.

GREGOR LOECHER

Mr. and Mrs. Gregor Loecher of Osage will observe their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, January 11, 1981.

An open house will be held in their honor, at the Osage Senior Citizens Center, 615 State Street. Relatives, friends and family may greet them between the hours of 2 and 4 o'clock.

Hosting the event will be their daughter and family, Clem and Darlene Schneider of Mason City, and three grandchildren: Karen, Mark and Sharon.

Rosella Theobald and Gregor Loecher were married on January 7, 1931, at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville.

They farmed in the Stacyville area until 1967, when they retired to their present home in Osage.
