Pike, Elaine Wilde 1922-2001

OBITUARY: Elaine Ruth (Wilde) Pike, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News,www.mcpress.com, Posted Aug. 14, 2001] Elaine Ruth (Wilde) Pike [1922-2001] Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 14, 2001 at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, for Elaine Ruth Pike, age 79. Rev. Robert Porisch officiated and burial was in the First Lutheran Church Cemetery, St. Ansgar. She died August 11, 2001 at the home of her daughter in Brownsdale, MN. Schroeder-Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, was in charge of arrangements. Elaine Ruth Wilde was born July 9, 1922 to Walter and Helena (Diedrich) Wilde on the family farm in Mitchell County, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Church, Rock Township. She was married on Oct. 7, 1945 to Lawrence Leonard Pike at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rock Township. Three children were born to this union, Linda Faye, Helen Marie and Wayne Erwin. Elaine was a member of the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. Elaine was a housewife and mother working only from her home doing daycare and sewing. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother always thinking of others, treating people equally. Family was important to her as well as her friends. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Lois Beyer; two brothers, LaVerne and Roland. Those that survive her include one son, Wayne and wife, Rhonda of Sparta, WI; two daughters, Linda Unverzagt and her husband, Edward of Brownsdale, MN, Helen Pike of Austin, MN; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Pike, George Walter 1895-1980

OBITUARY: George W. Pike, Mitchell County, Iowa George W. Pike [1895-1980] [St. Ansgar Enterprise, 10 JUL 1980] Funeral services for George W. Pike, 85, of Northwood, who died June 28 at St. Joseph Mercy hospital, Mason City, were held July 3 at the United Methodist church in Northwood with the Rev. James C. Riley officiating. George Walter Pike was born March 23, 1895 in Worth County, the son of Fred G. and Mary Elizabeth (Nixon) Pike. He grew up in Deer Creek township, Worth county, attended rural school and farmed with his father until he enlisted in the U.S. Army. January 19, 1924 he married Ruth R. Cole. They lived in Fullerton, Calif. for eight years where Mr. Pike was employed in a creamery. Then they returned to Iowa to make their home on a farm in the Deer Creek area until 1968 when they moved to Northwood. Two daughters were born to them. Mr. Pike was baptized at the Christ Episcopal church in Austin, Minn. He united with the United Methodist church, Northwood, March 22, 1970 by certificate of Transfer from the Otranto Community church. He was a member of the Otranto school board for several years, and also was a member of the Ogden-Nelson American Legion Post in carpenter for mamy years. After he moved to Northwood he became a member of the World War I Barracks, Iowa 1593. Mr. Pike had been a resident of the Northwood Lutheran Retirement Home for almost two years. he is survived by this daughters, mrs. Donald (Virginia) Watkins of Fullerton, Calif. and Mrs. Richard (Beverly) Roe of St. Ansgar; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Emil Hansen of St. Ansgar; a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, son-in-law and one sister. Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with the Rev. Riley in charge of committal services. Copyright 2006 - K.L. Pike, Gwendolyn 1907-2003

OBITUARY: Gwendolyn Irene (Wilder) Pike, 1907-2003, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News online -- Posted Sept. 3, 2003] Gwendolyn Irene Pike Gwendolyn was born on April 14, 1907 in Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa to Elmer L. and Ethel (Van Camp) Wilder. She married Archie Pike on November 7, 1925 in Austin, Minnesota. She liked gardening, started crocheting at the age of 76 and did doilies for all her children and grandchildren. She spent 62 years on the family farm. Gwendolyn was a lifelong member of the Otranto Community Church, was a member of the Ladies Aid and a member of Garden Club. She also raised sheep. Her home was always open for coffee and meals and was a summer home for relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1983, daughter Dawn McCormack, three brothers, two sisters, three grandchildren, three sons-in-law. Gwendolyn is survived by seven daughters; Georgia Lindley of LaPorte City, IA; Barbara Leraaen (Oral) of St. Ansgar; Mary Kittleson (Edward) of Greene, IA; Audrey Goodew (Carroll) of Lewisburg, N.C.; Frances Milne (John) of Waterloo, IA; Sandra Keith (Roger) of Algona, IA; Gwendolyn Eileen Helfter (James) of Sherrard, Ill.; 41 grandchildren; 100+ great grandchildren; 25+ great great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law; Dorothy Naber of Mason City, IA; Alice Olson of Northwood, IA: Thelma Delaney of Austin, MN. OBITUARY: Earl Herbert Pilgrim, 1916-1997, Mitchell County, Iowa [Based on Obituary in Mason City Globe Gazette; December 4, 1997] Earl Herbert Pilgrim MASON CITY, IOWA-- Earl Herbert Pilgrim, 80, of 830 S. Fifth St., Osage, Iowa, and formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (Nov. 29, 1997) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City. Funeral services will be held today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Jerry Newland, of the Osage First Baptist Church, officiating. Earl Herbert Pilgrim was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Osage, son of William and Ruth (Bigelow) Pilgrim. He married Mary Francis Galkin on Sept. 5, 1953, in Mason City. Earl grew up in the Osage area and worked on area farms. He worked at Mercy Hospital for 13 years until he and his family moved to Rockford where he worked for Trenttian's Hatchery until retiring. Survivors include one son, Jerry Pilgrim and his wife, Karri, Ewa Beach, Hawaii; two grandchildren, Aaron Michael and Nicholas Adam Pilgrim, both of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; one sister, Wildora Merrill. Pilgrim, 79, of Osage, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Center. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage, with the Rev. Pamela June Webb officiating. The body was cremated and there is no visitation. Inurnment will be in LuVerne at a later date. Lucille V. Pilgrim was born Feb. 25, 1917, at Ole, South Dakota. Survivors include her husband, Maurice Pilgrim of Osage; three daughters, Shirley Stockwell of Altoona; Patricia Hunt of Van Meter, and Mary Satern of Humboldt; two sons, Mervin Bommel of Waukee, and Gary Bommel of Parsons, Kan.; two stepsons, Louis Busse and Lyle Busse, both of Fort Dodge; 31 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rita Ziesman of Algona, and Fern Brown of Clarence, Mo.; and two brothers, Daniel Zuetlau of Rolfe, and Robert Zuetlau of Rockwell City. OBITUARY: Maurice Pilgrim, 1918-1997, Mitchell County, Iowa [Based on Obituary in Mason City Globe Gazette; April 13, 1997] Maurice Pilgrim OSAGE, IOWA--Maurice Pilgrim, 78, died Friday (April 11, 1997) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Church of Christ with the Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery with military rites at the grave by VFW Post 7920 of Osage. Visitation will be held after 3 p.m. today at Champion Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Maurice was born Aug. 14, 1918 at Osage. Pint Gast, Pamela Marie 1949-2002

OBITUARY: Pamela Marie Pint Gast, 1949-2002, Mitchell County, Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted Nov. 13, 2002] Pamela Marie Gast Funeral services were held Monday, November 11, 2002 at Rock Creek Lutheran Church southwest of Osage for Pamela Marie Gast, age 53 of rural Nora Springs. The Reverend R. Dawson Tornes officiated and interment was in the Rock Creek Cemetery, rural Osage. She died Wednesday, November 6, 2002 at her home following a lengthy battle with cancer. Pam was born October 3, 1949 in Osage, the daughter of Kenneth and Bertilla (Isaac) Pint. She attended Osage schools and graduated from Osage High School in 1968. Pam received her nurse's training from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, graduating in May 1971. She was united in marriage to Thomas Gast on June 25, 1971 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. They lived and farmed southwest of Osage. She was employed as a nurse at the White House Nursing Home, Osage Medical Clinic, Faith Lutheran Home all in Osage and then at the Mercy Family Clinic-Forest Park in Mason City. Pam was an active member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking. She also loved watching her children participate in sports and lately spoiling her grandchildren. She was the family and neighborhood "Ask A Nurse." Pam was preceded in death by her father Kenneth Pint in 1975, maternal grandparents John and Lizzy Isaac and paternal grandparents Laurence and Helen Pint. Survivors include her mother Bert Pint of Osage, husband Tom Gast of rural Nora Springs, two daughters Nicki Prantner and husband Michael of rural Hampton and their children Cody and Jordan, Robin Gast of rural Nora Springs, one son Eric Gast of rural Rudd, three sisters LuAnn Budahn and husband Bruce of Austin, MN, Lynda Johnson and husband Larry of Osage, Gwen Driscoll and husband Mark of Osage, three brothers Curt Pint and wife Jeanne of Dickeyville, WI, Lynn Pint of Osage, Neil Pint and wife Missy of Lenexa, Ks and numerous nieces and nephews. OBITUARY: Geraldine Jonette Wright Piper, Mitchell County, Iowa Geraldine Jonette Wright Piper [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted May 8, 2002] Memorial Services for Geraldine Piper, 79, of St. Ansgar were held Saturday, May 4, 2002 at the United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar, IA. The Reverend Jay Amundson officiated. Inurnment was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery. Piper died Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Geraldine Jonette Wright Piper was born in Dubuque, IA May 20, 1922, the daughter of John and Geraldine Samuels Wright. Her parents moved from Farley to Orchard, IA in 1924 where she attended Orchard Consolidated School. Gerry attended Upper Iowa at Fayette one year preceding entrance to Kahler Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, MN. She graduated as an RN in September 1944. She was employed at Oakridge Hospital, Oakridge, IN until the end of W.W. II. Geraldine was united in marriage to Donald Piper on November 18, 1945 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She served as a registered nurse at Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar from 1965 to 1968, as school nurse for St. Ansgar schools for nine years and in 1977 she returned to Good Samaritan Center, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her grandchildren, outdoor life, family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time canoeing and bird watching at the cabin on the Cedar River that Don built. Preceding her in death were her parents and husband Donald. Survivors include three daughters, Carol Dockum and husband Gary, their children Aaron, Jessica and Joshua and great-grandson Isaac, of Rock Falls; Christine Piper and husband Jon Barry, their children Natalie and Sydney of Rochester, MN; Susan May and husband Harry, their children Cassie and husband Troy Hanna, Hillary, Gabriel and Skyler of Stacyville; two sisters, Dorothy Neeley of State Center, Brenda Currier and husband Owen of Mason City; a brother Jack Wright of Pittsburg, CA; nephews, a niece and cousins; sisters-in-law Dorothy Knutson, Orpha and Wilburt Rogotzke, Marion and Myron Schmidt. Burial will be at a later date at the Norway Cemetery, Norway, Iowa. Arlene died of cancer Oct. 13, 2003 at Peace Hospice at Great Falls. Arlene Johnsten was born Nov. 17, 1907 on a farm near Norway, Iowa to Dr. William and Maude Pirie. She graduated from high school in Springville, Iowa and graduated with an Elementary Education degree from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught school at Radcliffe, Iowa, where she met Carsten Johnsten, who was the school principal. They were married in 1933 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Their first son Richard was also born in Norway, IA where Carsten was then school superintendent. A second son David, was born in Waterloo, Iowa and died in infancy. Her husband Carsten died in 1993. Carsten and Arlene lived in Osage, Iowa from 1947 to 1977, where Carsten was superintendent 25 years. Arlene was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and witnessed her Christian Faith throughout her life. Her survivors who were blessed by her life and will cherish her memory include a son Richard and his wife Margery; three grandchildren Christina, Jennifer and Christian; a nephew William Pirie and a niece Dee Ann Newman. Military honors at the grave will be by Osage American Legion Post 278. Frank Pitra was born June 11, 1910, at Bordulac, North Dakota, the son of Czech immigrants, Joseph and Amelia (Popelka) Pitra, who farmed in the area. Frank moved to Osage in 1937. He spent most of his days in Iowa doing construction work. Frank served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, mainly in the European areas. Frank was a long time member of the Osage American Legion Post 278 and the Osage VFW Post 7920. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Amelia; his three sisters, Annie Riemers, Mary Fait, and Antionette Gorski; his three brothers, Joseph Pitra, Bert Pitra, and Stanley Pitra; and one local nephew, Joey Brumm. Frank is survived by two sisters, Stacia Balsley of Lehigh Acres, Florida, and Marjorie (Clarence) Brumm of Osage; local Osage nephew Richard (Karen) Brumm and family; and other numerous nieces and nephews out of state. Pitzen, Alfred 1909-2003

OBITUARY: Alfred Pitzen, 1909-2003, Mitchell Co., Iowa [ Mitchell County-Press-News online - Posted Nov. 12, 2003 ] Alfred Pitzen Funeral service for Alfred Pitzen, 94, of Stacyville, were held Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at 10:30 am at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Burial was in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville. Alfred died on November 6, 2003 at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa. Alfred was born on August 30, 1909 to Fred and Christina (Smith) Pitzen. His marriage of 67 years to Mary Reding began on September 2, 1936 at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville. Alfred farmed his entire life, retiring to Stacyville in 1978. He always had an active part in farming, even after his retirement. In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking and traveling. He also loved watching his grandchildren in sports activities. Alfred was very involved with 4-H, serving as a leader for many years. The county fair was a very special part of his life as well as his families lives. Alfred was a 75 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, was an Iowa Holstein member, a Farm Bureau member, was a board member of the ASCS and received the Distinguished Holstein Service Award. Alfred is survived by his wife, Mary of Stacyville; two sons, Gene (Jane) Pitzen of Stacyville and Ronnie (Becky) of Stacyville; four daughters, Mary Jane (Jim) Mauer of Lisle, Illinois, Betty Ann (Marly) Stoltenberg of Mason City, Iowa, Carol (Vaughn) Rossum of Osage, Iowa, Rosalie (Doug) Malo of Brookings. South Dakota; daughter-in-law Vernie Pitzen of Austin, Minnesota; 25 grandchildren ; 26 great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Pitzen of Stacyville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son James; three brothers, Paul, Lawrence and Bill; four sisters, Angela May, Gertrude Hartnell, Millie Pitzen and Martha Pitzen. Rev. Joseph Schneider officiated. Burial was in the Visitation Cemetery. She died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001 at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home. Trudy was born Jan. 2, 1915 the daughter of Fred and Christina (Smith) Pitzen. She graduated from Visitation High School. For ten years, she worked for the U.S. Government in Des Moines, Cleveland, OH and Chicago, IL. On Dec. 27, 1944 she married Burton Hartnell. Trudy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Christian Mother's Society. For 27 years she and Bud raced harness horses for a hobby. Preceding her in death was an infant daughter, Mary; her parents, Fred and Christinia Pitzen; sisters, Amelia Pitzen, Martha Pitzen and Angela May; brothers, Paul, Bill and Lawrence Pitzen. Those that survive her include her husband, Burton Hartnell; her brothers, Alfred Pitzen and Robert Pitzen all of Stacyville; many nieces and nephews, relatives and other friends. Pitzen Reynolds, Helen 1912-2005

OBITUARY: Helen (Pitzen) Reynolds, 1912-2005, Mitchell County, Iowa Helen Reynolds A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen Reynolds, age 92, of Stacyville, was held Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Burial was in the Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville, Iowa. Helen died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home. Helen was born August 19, 1912, in Stacyville, the daughter of William and Amy (Kinney) Pitzen. She graduated from the old Visitation High School in 1930, and then attended the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul. After the premature death of her father in a hunting accident, she and her mother moved to Wisconsin, where her married sister was living. Helen then attended the Business College in Milwaukee, after which she was employed in a General Motors Office in Janesville, Wisconsin, for several years. It was here that she met her husband, Jim. They were married on Feb. 18, 1939, and had been happily together for 63 years when Jim passed away in August of 2002. When World War II broke out, Jim was transferred to a plant in Bay City, Mich., where they lived for five years. Following a year in Flint, Mich., they moved to Milwaukee, where they spent the next 24 years. While living in Milwaukee, Helen was employed for 11 years at the First Wisconsin National Bank. Helen was an excellent pianist. After retirement, she and Jim lived in several places, including Roswell, New Mexico, and Bellevue, Nebraska, before retiring to Stacyville in the fall of 1988. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jim Reynolds; and a sister, Alice Pospeschil. OBITUARY: James F. Pitzen, Mitchell County, Iowa [ Mason City Globe Gazette Online Obituaries ] Sunday, May 2, 1999 JAMES F. PITZEN LEWISTON. Minn. - James F. Pitzen, 61, died Friday (April 30, 1999) at Rochester Methodist Hospital. He was born on April 26, 1938, to Alfred and Mary (Reding) Pitzen in Stacyville, Iowa. On June 20, 1959, he was united in marriage with Vernie Terhark in Stacyville. Jim was born and raised in Stacyville and in 1967 he and his family moved to Rose Creek. In 1984 they moved to Lewiston, Minn., and have resided there since. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was very hard working and dedicated to his job. He enjoyed garden work and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jim will always be remembered as having the cleanest car in Lewiston. He is survived by his wife, Vernie; his parents, Alfred and Mary; six children, Theresa (John) Maher of Austin, Minn., Steve Pitzen of Pheonix Ariz., Judy (Donald) Oswald of Adams, Minn., John Pitzen of Leesville, La., Thomas (Megan) Pitzen of Victoria, Minn., Jason (Abby Ties) Pitzen of Lewiston; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Ron (Becky) Pitzen and Gene (Jane) Pitzen, all of Stacyville; and four sisters, MaryJane (Jim) Mauer of Chicago, Betty (Marly) Stoltenberg of Mason City, Carol (Vaughn) Rossum of Osage and Rosalie (Doug) Malo of Brookings, S.D. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Lewiston, with the Rev. Peter Schuster officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hoff Funeral Homes-Lewiston Chapel and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening. Pitzen, Jane 1941-2005

OBITUARY: Jane Elizabeth (Praska) Pitzen, 1941-2005, Mitchell County, Iowa Jane Elizabeth Pitzen A Mass of Christian Burial for Jane Elizabeth Pitzen, age 63, of Stacyville, Iowa, was held Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Burial was in Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Stacyville. Jane died on Saturday, March, 5, 2005, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, after a courageous two year battle with acute leukemia. Jane was born August 21, 1941, in Elma, Iowa, the daughter of Victor and Rose (Komarak) Praska. She graduated from St. William's High School in Alta Vista, Iowa, and attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City. On November 23, 1961, she was united in marriage to Gene Robert Pitzen at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Alta Vista. Jane worked as a secretary in Ames as a newlywed, before becoming a full time mom and working part time at the Stacyville Nursing Home. She later worked at the Austin Vet Clinic after Gene and Jane dispersed their dairy herd. Jane's greatest joys were her six children and 11 grandchildren. She also greatly enjoyed her pet companion, Nutmeg. Jane was a member of Visitation Catholic Church, past Northwest Country Circle Leader, member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and a member of the Mitchell County Dairy Promotion Group. Jane was preceded in death by her mother and father, Rose and Victor Praska. Survivors are her husband, Gene Pitzen of Stacyville; her children, Julie Niess and her husband Scott of Osage, and their children Cody and Cally; Randy Pitzen and his wife Janet of Adams, Minn., and their children Adam, Jessica, and Alex; Jeff Pitzen and his wife Carmen of Kasson, Minn., and their children, Danielle and Rachel; Rick Pitzen and his wife Teri of Dubuque, and their children Deidre and Lucas; Lori Ishman of Floyd, and her children Tyler and Taylor; and Ryan Pitzen, at home. She is also survived by one brother, Donald Praska and his wife Karen of Charles City; and her mother-in-law, Mary Pitzen of Stacyville. Pitzen, John, Rev. 1918-2004

OBITUARY: Rev. John Jerome Pitzen, 1918-2004, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Based on obituary in Mitchell County Press-News online; July 21, 2004] The Rev. John Jerome Pitzen Funeral services for The Rev. John Jerome Pitzen, were held Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at John XXIII Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, by the Rev. Monsignor James Barta. Burial was in Visitation Catholic Cemetery, Stacyville. The Rev. John Jerome Pitzen, 85, of Fairfax, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a short illness. Preceding him in death were four brothers, Gervin, Clem, Al and Sy, and a sister, Marie Montavon. He is survived by a sister, Agnes Casley of Hillsboro, Oregon, and two sisters-in-law, Marian Pitzen of Osage and Charlotte Pitzen of Stacyville and numerous nieces and nephews. Father Pitzen was born Dec. 3, 1918 in Stacyville, the son of Joseph and Anna Simon Pitzen. He graduated from Visitation Grade and High School, Loras College, class of 1941, and the Theological College of the Catholic University of America in 1945. Archbishop Henry P. Rohlman ordained him a priest on Feb. 3, 1945, at St. Raphael Cathedral. Father Pitzen's parish assignments included St. Francis Xavier, Dyersville, from 1945 to 1948, Loras Academy from 1948 to 1956, and Loras College from 1956 to 1970. He served as chaplain at St. Joseph Sanitarium, Dubuque, from 1950 to 1953, as Dean of St. Pius X Seminary from 1956 to 1959 and as spiritual director for Lay Students from 1959 to 1970. He was the Archdiocesan Director of Rural Life from 1972 to 1982 and served as chaplain of the Fairfax L.A. Club. Father was appointed as pastor to Immaculate Conception Church, Van Horne, from 1970 to 1974, St. Athanasius Church, Jesup, from 1974 to 1985, St. Patrick Church, Fairfax, from 1985 to 1993. OBITUARY: Olivia Pitzen, 1919-2005, Mitchell County, Iowa [ Original version webpublished at www.mcpress.com Oct. 26, 2005 ] Olivia Pitzen A funeral service for Olivia Pitzen, age 86, was held Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005 at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, Iowa. Burial was in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville. Olivia died October 21, 2005 at the Stacyville Community Nursing home. Olivia Pitzen was born January 3, 1919 to Henry and Anna (Hackenmiller) May at Meyer, Iowa. She was baptized and attended school at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, Meyer, Iowa. She worked in Austin and Waterloo before her marriage. She was united in marriage on October 9, 1943 to Robert Pitzen of Stacyville. They recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. They spent 37 years on the family farm before retiring to town. Olivia was actively involved in 4-H as a leader, a volunteer at the nursing home, and a long time member of several church organizations. She enjyed gardening and crocheting before her illness interfered. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Bernard, Edmund, Clemence and Othmar; and three sisters, Betty, Dorothy, and Margaret. Olivia is survived by her husband, Robert Pitzen of Stacyville, eight sons: Daniel (Linda) of Wooster, Ohio; Dale (Ann) of Rochdale, Massachusetts; Leon of Monticello, Minnesota; Lloyd of NewPort News, Virginia; Quentin (Rita) of Iowa City; Ken (Val) of Stacyville; Keith (Marilyn) of Stacyville; Jerry (Laura) of Farmington, Minnesota; two daughters: Rosemary (Jim) Kruger of Grafton, and Karen Bisson and friend Jim Holmberg of Somerset, Wiscconsin; 25 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, two brothers: Fred (Dorothy) May of Rose Creek, Minnesota, and Anthony of Fon Du Lac, Wisconsin; one sister Evelyn Brumm of Osage, and sisters-in-law Regina and Irma May of Stacyville; one brother-in-law Joe Martyniak. Pitzen Malo, Rosalie 1948-2005

OBITUARY: Rosalie Kay (Pitzen) Malo, 1948-2005, Mitchell County, Iowa [ Original version posted on www.mcpress.com Oct. 19, 2005 ] Rosalie K. Malo Brookings, South Dakota -- Memorial services for Rosalie K. Malo, age 56, of Brookings, S.D., were at the Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings on Monday, Oct. 17, 2005. Rosalie died Sunday, October 9, 2005, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Rosalie Kay (Pitzen) Malo was born December 5, 1948, at Osage, Iowa, to Alfred Nicholas and Mary Anna (Reding) Pitzen. She grew up on the family dairy farm, and was active in 4-H. She was chosen as Mitchell County Dairy Princess. In 1967 she graduated from Marian High School in Stacyville, Iowa, and received a B.S. degree in textiles and clothing from Iowa State University in 1971. On December 26, 1970, she married Douglas D. Malo in Stacyville. Rosie was the head secretary for the Horticulture Department at North Dakota State University from 1971 until 1975. The Malos moved to Brookings in 1975, where Rosie operated a daycare center until 2004. She cared for four to eight children each day, over 50 kids, fulltime, in 30 years. Rosie was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church. Her activities included the Mission Action Program, ALCW treasurer, quilting group, Sunday School teacher, banner-making, ALCW circle, and chair of the Church and Community Board. She organized the construction, finishing, and information for the new Chrismon tree ornaments. She served as a 4-H leader, and Odyssey of the Mind coach and city program coordinator. She worked in several service projects in Pine Ridge, at an orphanage in South Korea for three months, and in Haiti with the solar oven project. She had taken three trips to Bolivia to help with the development of a small university to help the rural poor. She was preceded in death by her father, a brother James Pitzen, and a sister-in-law, Jane (Gene) Pitzen. Survivors include her husband, Douglas Malo, of Brookings; two children, Robert J. (Marin) Malo, of Bozeman, Mont., and Denise M. (Mark) Miller of Rapid City, D.S.; a grandson Ethan Malo of Bozeman, Mont.; her mother, Mary Pitzen, of Stacyville, Iowa; five siblings, Gene Pitzen of Stacyville, Iowa, Mary Jane (Jim) Mauer of Lisle, Ill., Betty Ann (Marly) Stoltenberg of Mason City, Iowa, Carol (Vaughn) Rossum of Osage, Iowa, and Ronnie (Becky) Pitzen of Stacyville, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Vernie (James) Pitzen of Austin, Minn. Pitzen, age 90, of Stacyville, died Saturday, August 11, 2001 at the Stacyville Nursing Home, Stacyville. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 14, 2001 at the Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville. Rev. Joseph Schneider officiated. Burial was in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville. Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, in charge of arrangements. Sylvester J. Pitzen was born Sept. 29, 1910 in Adams, MN the son of Joseph and Anna (Simon) Pitzen. He married Dorothy Coan on June 27, 1933 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing and taxidermy. Sylvester worked for the Stacyville Co-op Company for 48 years, 43 of those years as elevator manager. He was an active 4-H leader and member of the Foresters and the K.of C. Sylvester was on the board of directors for FELCO, FELCO-STATEC and also Land O'Lakes. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; a son John; and brothers, Gervin, Clem and Al. Sylvester is survived by his three sons, Tom Pitzen of Stacvyile, Nick Pitzen of Stacyville, Steve Pitzen of Adams, MN; one daughter, Mary Ellen McGlashing of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Father John Pitzen of Fairfax; two sisters, Agnes Casley of Beaverton, OR and Marie Montavon of DeKalb, IL. OBITUARY: Margaret Eliza Calista (Casey) Plath, 1890-1981, Mitchell Co., IA [St. Ansgar Enterprise, 17 SEP 1981] Mrs. Margaret Plath Funeral Held Tuesday, September 8 Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret E. Plath, 91, who died September 3 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, were held September 8 at the Patterson-James-Sellergren Funeral chapel with the Rev. Paul Maguire, pastor of Holy Name Catholic church, Rockford, officiating. Margaret Eliza Calista Casey Plath, daughter of Bernard and Bertha (Daniels) Casey, was born July 10, 1890 near Elkader. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at Elkader. She moved to Mason City in 1915. March 26, 1916 she married Herman W. Plath. They made their home near Manly and the Grafton areas, later moving to Mason City. She had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center here since 1969. Mrs. Plath is survived by two sons, Cecil of Kensett and Virgil of Carman, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Verna) Hartwig of Mason City; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and three sisters. Burial was in the St. Joseph section of Elmwood cemetery in Mason City with Rev. Maguire in charge of committal services.
