OBITUARY: Maxine I. Miller, 1928-1997, Mitchell County, Iowa
Maxine I. Miller
MASON CITY, IOWA-- Maxine I. Miller, 69, 829 12th St. S.E., died Thursday,
August 28, [1997] at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Major Erickson Funeral
Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. James B. Norem of St. Paul
Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of
arrangements.
Maxine was born April 2, 1928, in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, the
daughter of William L and Mathilda M. (Dieterich) Lonergan. She was baptized
and confirmed at the Osage Lutheran Church.
She was raised in Mitchell County and attended schools in Mitchell, Osage
and Orchard before moving to Mason City with her parents in 1945.
Maxine married Darold Miller on April 19, 1947, at the Radio Chapel in Mason
City.
Maxine was a longtime resident of Mason City and a member of the Moose
Lodge. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and sewing.
Survivors include her husband, Darold Miller, Mason City; daughters, Carolyn
Miller, Mason City, and Wendy Hegtvedt and her husband, Mike, Mason City;
sons, Rick Miller, Mason City, and Jim Miller and his wife, Carla, of Mason
City; seven grandchildren, Damon Torres, Stacy and Amy Hegtvedt, Kelly,
Jeremy, Jordan and Madison Miller; one great-grandchild, Melissa Mae Torres;
brother, William Lonergan, Rose Creek, Minn.; sister, Ila Ebbers, Mason City;
brother, Charles E. Lonergan, Westwood, Calif.; brother, Neil Lonergan,
Amery, Wis.; sister, Dora Weiland, Mason City; sister, Bertha Flatness,
Mason City; and brother, Mahlon Lonergan, of Rose Creek, Minn.; and many
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three grandchildren.

OBITUARY: Merlyn Gene Lonergan, 1930-2004, Mitchell Co., Iowa
Merlyn Gene Lonergan
Funeral services for Merlyn Gene Lonergan of Sebring, Florida, formerly
of Cedar Falls, Iowa, will be held at Parrott and Wood Funeral Home in
Waterloo, Iowa, on Thursday, Oct. 14. Burial will be in the Garden of
Memories, Waterloo. Merlyn died of cancer at his home on Friday,
October 8, 2004.
Gene was born December 16, 1930, near Mitchell, Iowa, to Frank and Lillian
Lonergan. He attended school at Mitchell and Osage. On July 7, 1949 he
married Beatrice June Anderson in Waterloo, Iowa; they were later
divorced. On March 14, 1970 he married Mildred Mooney in Marshalltown.
Mildred died in 1997. Gene then remarried Beatrice on January 9, 1998
at Sebring, Florida.
Gene was employed for 49 years by Deere and Company. For many years
he also ran Gene's Mow and Blow lawn mower business from his Cedar
Falls home. Gene loved John Deere, traveling, fishing and friends
and family.
Merlyn Gene Lonergan was preceded in death by his parents and three
sisters, Mary Voshell, Mildred Schulz and Margaret Kindschuh.
His survivors include his wife Bea; four daughters, Jeri Savage of
Lehigh Acres, Florida, Karla Bearbower and husband Steve R. of Waterloo,
Kim Hayes and husband David of Urbana, Iowa, and Jackie Heine and
husband Dan of Tripoli, Iowa; nine grandchildren, eight great-
grandchildren, two brothers Melbourne "Bud" Lonergan of Waterloo
and Marvin "Lee" Lonergan of Mitchell and a sister Mabel Lang of
Waterloo.
Parrott and Wood Funeral Home in Waterloo is in charge of arrangements.

OBITUARY: Harry Loney, Mitchell County, Iowa
HARRY LONEY FUNERAL HELD IN WISCONSIN
Funeral services for Harry Loney, 60, who died January 23 in a Tucson, Ariz.
hospital following surgery, were held January 28 in Sun Prairie, Wis. Burial
was in the Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery at Madison, Wis.
Mr. Loney was reared in the Osage area, and was married to Erma Borchardt
of St. Ansgar. They farmed for a time in Mitchell county then moved to
Cottage Grove, Wis. where they continued to farm until his health failed.
Survivors include his wife, Erma, two daughters, Mrs. W. (Joan) Richardson,
Dane, Wis.; and Mrs. Robert (Donna) Nee, Madison; a son Jerald, Cottage
Grove; four sisters, Mrs. A. (Lois) Meek, Madison; Mrs. Charles (Dorothy)
Burmeister, and Mrs. Burlin (Rean) Bunce of Montana; Mrs. Roger (Lula )
Lesch, Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers; Donald, Madison, and Clifford of
Anamosa; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

OBITUARY: Mrs. Lena Loney, 1870-1930, Mitchell Co., Iowa
MRS. LENA LONEY DIES AFTER SHORT ILLNESS
Services are Held from Champion Funeral Home
Mrs. Lena Loney died at Rochester Aug. 9, after an illness of about two
weeks. She suffered from an intestinal obstruction, an illness coming
on her suddenly.
Mrs. Lena Loney was born at Blooming Prairie, Minn., April 18, 1870[?]. She
grew to womanhood in that neighborhood. She was married to Charles Wesley
Loney at Lancaster, Wis., and her husband preceded her in death, May 4, 1925.
To them were born two children, Mrs. Martin Hultman and Merrill Loney, Osage.
Surviving also are three brothers, Lewis Halvorson, of Minneapolis; Knute,
Faribault, Minn., and Halvor, of Austin, Minn. She had one sister, Mrs.
Julia Halvorson of Minneapolis. The last year of her life was spent at
Little Cedar.
Those who knew Mrs. Loney best, will remember her as kind, industrious woman,
a good wife and mother.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Champion funeral home,
in charge of the [services was] Rev. O.C. Myhre, and burial was made in the
Osage cemetery.

Sandra Hartogh
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Thurs., May 30, 2002 at
St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, in Osceola, IN for Sandra Kay
Bussard Hartogh, age 62, of Elhkart, IN. Father Thomas Ryan of St. Thomas
will officiate and interment will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens,
Osceola, IN. She died Friday, May 24, 2002 of a lengthy illness.
Sandra was born July 18, 1938 in Elkhart, IN the daughter of E. Louis Long
and Agnes (Torok) Long. She married Bernard Hartogh on June 7, 1974 in
Elkhart, IN. Mr. Hartogh was born and raised in the Mitchell County, Iowa
area.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Bernard Hartogh of Elkhart, IN; two sons,
two daughters, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her mother,
Agnes Long, and three sisters all of the Elkhart, IN area and a former
husband, Donald G. Bussard, Elkhart, IN.

RICEVILLE, Iowa -- Jacquelyn Lorence, 72, of Riceville, died Monday
(June 26, 1995) at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Conway Funeral Home,
Riceville, with inurnment at a later date in the Orchard Cemetery.
Jacquelyn Lorence was born March 22, 1923, in Osage.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Lorence of Riceville; three daughters,
Anne Lorence of Tulsa, Okla.; Denise Pearson of Aurora, Colo.,
and Janet Wietz of Aurora, Colo.; one son, William Lorence of
McLean, Va.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and
two sisters, Phyllis Coyle of Downers Grove, Ill., and Connie Mauser
of Osage.
She was preceded in death by one son.

RICEVILLE-- Joseph Lorence, 74, of Riceville, died Tuesday, Aug. 1,
1995, at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, Osage.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 4, 1995, at Conway Funeral
Home, with the Rev. Don Lovejoy officiating. Burial will be in the
Orchard Cemetery at Orchard. Military rites will be performed
by American Legion Post of Riceville.
Joseph Lorence was born Feb. 28, 1921, in St. Ansgar.
Survivors include one son, William Scott Lorence of Molean, Virginia;
three daughters, Anne Maureen Lorence of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Denise
Doreen Pearson of Aurora, Colorado, and Janet Lorraine Wietz, of
Aurora, Colorado; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;

Funeral services for Hedwig (Hattie) Lorenz, age 97, of Osage, were
held at Friday Jan. 16, 2004 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage
with Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment was in
the Osage Cemetery. Hattie died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 at the Mitchell
County Regional Health Center in Osage.
She was born September 4, 1906 in Kensington, Kansas, the daughter of
The Rev. John and Matilda (Beckman) Gemaehlich. She was baptized and
confirmed in the Lutheran faith by her father. On January 9, 1926,
Hattie and M.R. (Ralph) Lorenz were united in marriage in Osage. To
this union were born three daughters; Lois, Eunice, and Janice.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the VFW Auxiliary,
the American Legion Auxiliary and its Past President's Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph in 1974, six brothers
and two sisters.
She is survived by three daughters, Lois (Richard) Moran of Roscommon,
Michigan, Eunice (Kenneth) Anderson of Osage, and Janice (John) Miller
of Sun City West, Arizona; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren,
three great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Losee
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 3, 2004 for Kenneth Losee, age 70,
of Riceville, at the Riceville United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael
Carey officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Riceville with
military honors performed by Roy Gue Post 244. Kenneth passed away Monday,
Nov. 29, 2004 at the Riceville Community Rest Home.
Kenneth, son of Marion and Geneive Stephanie Losee, was born May 16, 1934
in Lake City, Iowa. He graduated from Barnum High School in Barnum, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Elaine Hofland on June 25, 1960 at the 6 Mile
Grove Church in Lyle, Minn. He served his country in the Army. Kenneth
worked for the Mower County Highway Department, worked on the family farm
and hauled milk. Elaine and Kenneth moved to Riceville in 1990.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Elaine in 1994.
His survivors include two sons, Duane and his wife Jeannette of Riceville
and Roger of Austin, Minn., three grandchildren Levi, Garrett and Kendyl,
one brother John and his wife Fileen Losee of Claremont, Minn., two
sisters: Martha and her husband Don Bates of Hopkins, Minn., and Linda
and her husband Chuck Danks of Medford, Minn., many nieces and nephews.
Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

OBITUARY: Imogene (Love) Mallow, 1923-2003, Mitchell Co., Iowa
Imogene Love Mallow
Memorial services for Imogene Love Mallow, age 79, of Osage, were held
at 10:30 am on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church
in Osage. The Reverend Roy Ott officiated. Inurnment was in the Osage
Cemetery with a flag presentation by VFW Post 7920 and American Legion
Post 278. In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorials be made
to Hospice of North Iowa or Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Imogene Love Mallow was born on October 15, 1923 in Orchard, Iowa, the
daughter of John and Marion (Crawford) Love.
She was educated in the Orchard School and graduated from Osage High
School. Imogene served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Imogene was united in marriage to Giles L. Mallow on June 14, 1946 in
Osage. She was a homemaker and mother.
Preceding Imogene in death were her parents; her husband Giles L. Mallow
on April 23, 2003; two brothers James and Burchard Love and one sister
Ruth Bilharz.
Her surivors include a son Charles (Kathryn) Mallow of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin,
and their two daughters Kristen Mallow of Oconomowoc and Adele Mallow Spears
(Matt) and their children Tayla and Rhiannon of Bloomington, Minnesota and
son Christopher (Becky) Mallow of Gillette, Wyoming; four daughters Claudia
Deaton and her son Drake of St. Ansgar; Constance Litzel (John) of Ames and
their daughter Elizabeth and her daughter Isabelle of Ames; Crystal Darrow
(Gregory) of Bartlett, Illinois; Carolyn Cowell (Marty) of Denver, Iowa and
their children Morgan, Mason Giles and Marshall and one sister Mary
Morey of Osage.

DIED IN NEW YORK
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Lybarger of Charles City received word Saturday of the
death of Mr. Lybarger's sister, Alice Lybarger Lovejoy, 72, who died that
day in New York City. She had been hospitalized two years.
Alice Lybarger was born in Marshall county, Iowa, the daughter of William
and Tura Lybarger. As a child she accompanied her family to the Osage
vicinity, settling on a farm in Burr Oak township. She received her
education there.
She is survived by her husband, Cliff Lovejoy of New York, two daughters,
Shirley and Kay; several grandchildren, one brother, Bruce Lybarger, and
one sister, Mrs. Hale Smith, Margaret, of Rockville Center, N.Y.

Blanche E. Lovejoy
OSAGE, IOWA-- Blanche E. Lovejoy, 81, of Osage, died Thursday, Oct. 30,
1997, at Hennepin County Medical Center Burn Unit in Minneapolis.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at the First Baptist Church,
with the Rev. Jerry Newland officiating. Burial will be in the Osage
Cemetery.
Blanche was born May 9, 1916, in Bellefield, South Dakota.
Survivors include one daughter, Delores Badker of Osage; two sons, Donald
Baker, Plymouth, and Henry Lovejoy, Osage; nine grandchildren; 23 great-
grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma Miller, St. Ansgar.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one
sister.
The Champion Funeral Home, Osage, is in charge of arrangements.

OBITUARY: Delia Birda (Webster) Loveless, 1869-1905, Mitchell Co., Iowa
LOVELESS
Delia Birda Webster was born December 18, 1869, at Rockford, Iowa, and
died at her home at Orchard, May 12, 1905. When but thirteen years old
her mother died. Soon after her father moved with the family to Osage
and the responsibility of the household and with three younger children
fell upon her. How true a mother even as a child she proved to be to
these younger ones only they and those near to them could tell. During
these years too of privation from those advantages for schooling and the
like which girls usually enjoy, was evidently being developed those traits
of motherliness which are so characteristic of her in later years.
She attended the Cedar Valley Seminary and later taught school.
In Charles City on March 15, 1895, she was united in marriage to Lee Jay
Loveless. For the most part they have lived near Osage until four years
ago they moved to Orchard.
Two children, Ellen Marie, aged nine years, and Jennie Bird, aged twenty
months are left motherless. Besides her husband are left her father,
four sisters and five brothers.
She united with the Baptist church when but sixteen years of age and
maintained her membership until her death.
The end came very suddenly. The serious nature of her illness was realized
only a very little time before her death.
The funeral services were held at the Baptist church on Monday afternoon
conducted by the pastor Rev. H. B. Steelman, and the Rev.D. I. Coon who
came up from Waverly to preach the funeral sermon.

Howard D. Lovik
Funeral services will be held for Howard D. Lovik, 76, of rural Orchard
at 1 pm Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003 at St. John's Lutheran Church (1921 317th
St., south of Osage). The Reverend Christian F. Gugel will officiate.
Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd with military
graveside services by Orchard American Legion Post 641.
Visitation is from 4 pm to 8 pm Wednesday at the Champion-Burcheit Funeral
Home in Osage. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the
church on Thursday. Howard died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003 at the Faith
Lutheran Home in Osage.
Howard Lovik was born to Henry and Anna (Winterton) Lovik on Oct. 1, 1927
at Forest City. He attended rural schools. He served in the U.S. Army
during the Korean Conflict.
Howard was united in marriage to Belvia Wood Ring on Aug. 7, 1976 at
St. John's Lutheran Church. To this union one son, Brian Henry was born.
Howard retired from farming and worked in the foundry at Oliver in
Charles City. He belonged to Orchard American Legion Post 641.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Howard's survivors include his wife Belvia of Orchard; one son Brian
Lovik and his wife Lexia of Dawnson Springs, Kentucky; five stepchildren
Monty Ring and his wife Twyla of Greene; Teresa Dorsey and her husband
Pat of Osage; Greg Ring of Orchard; Arlys May and her husband Russ of
Kasson, Minnesota; Bruce Ring and his wife Rita During of St. Paul,
Minnesota; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three brothers
Clemons Lovik of Mitchell; Harley Lovik of Sherrill, Iowa and Wayne
Lovik of Floyd; two sisters Ethel Holcomb of Des Moines and Dorothy
Harris of Floyd; many nieces and nephews.

Riceville. Rev. Michael Parris will officiate with burial to be in
St. Peter's Cemetery, rural Riceville. Friends may call at the Lindstrom
Funeral Home in Riceville Tuesday during the hours of 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm
and an hour before services on Wednesday at the church. Irene passed away
from cancer at the Riceville Community Rest Home on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002.
She entered the rest home on August 19th.
Irene was born the daughter of Swen and Hilma (Strand) Lovik on September
19, 1924 in rural Ventura, IA. She was baptized and confirmed in the
Lutheran faith and was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville.
She attended Ventura schools graduating in 1943 from Ventura High School.
Peterson was united in marriage to Robert Oettchen on June 2, 1951 and they
resided on the family farm south of Clear Lake. Her three children Russell,
Verlyn and Elaine were born while they lived there.
In 1971 the family moved to a farm at Riceville, IA. Her husband Robert
passed away in 1972 and she remarried on Feb. 14, 1973 to Carl Peterson.
They remained on the farm. Carl passed away in 1992.
Irene worked in various nursing homes and loved to sew and work in the
garden. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her two husbands and one daughter,
Elaine Oettchen in the year 2000, a sister Edythe Otis, five brothers, Roy,
Harry, Norman, Roy and Duane Lovick, five sisters-in-law and one brother-in-
law.
She is survived by two sons Russell Oettchen of Riceville and Verlyn
Oettchen of Chester, IA, two grandsons Brandon and Avery Oettchen, three
brothers Orville and his wife of Gulfport, MS, Lloyd and his wife of
Bullhead, AZ and Virgil and his wife of Fertile, IA, several nieces and
nephews.

Ann Casey Low
A Funeral Mass for Ann Casey Low, age 90, of Osage, Iowa, was held
Saturday, March 6, 2004 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage,
with Reverend Ray E. Atwood officiating. Ann died Wednesday, March
3, 2004 at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Ann Casey Low was born June 11, 1913 in Lawler the daughter of Arthur
and Julia (Keefe) Casey. She attended school in Elma, Iowa. Ann married
Lloyd Low on June 1, 1945 at Sacred Heart Parsonage in Osage. Ann was
employed by the Daylight Store and Farmer's Produce in Osage. She was
a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd in 1988,
four sisters Kathryn Evans, Gertrude Cole, Jean Fangmeier, Lorene
Hennessey, three brothers Robert Casey, Dan Casey and Louis Casey.
She is survived by two sons Michael J. (Helen) Low of Mason City, Iowa,
and Craig Low of Osage, two grandchildren Michele (Tom) Boone of Mason
City and Christopher Low of Des Moines, a sister Bette Eckerman of
Des Moines, several nieces and nephews.

Judith Kay Low
ST. ANSGAR, IOWA--Judith Kay Low, 53, of St. Ansgar, died Thursday, March
13, 1997, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 17th, at the Immanuel Lutheran
Church in St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Edward Schmidt officiating. Burial
was in the St. Ansgar City Cemetery.
The Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, was in charge of
arrangements.
Judith Kay Low was born March 21, 1943, in Osage.
Survivors include her husband, David Low of St. Ansgar; two daughters,
Laurel Feldt of Cameron, Wis., and Kari Low of North Liberty; one son,
Daniel Low of St. Louis Park, Minn.; and her parents, Kenneth and Shirley
Duenow, St. Ansgar.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.

OBITUARY: Dianne Irene Muller Lowe 1946-2002, Mitchell County, Iowa
Dianne Irene Lowe
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 12 for Dianne Irene Lowe, 56,
at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel in Mason City. The Rev. Paul
Finger of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiated. Cremation followed the
services with inurnment at a later date in the Manly Cemetery. Dianne
died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002 at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason
City.
The family requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul Lutheran
Church in Mason City in her memory.
Dianne Irene Lowe was born on Jan. 7, 1946, in Osage, the daughter of Mervin
and Irene (Roberts) Muller. She received her education in the Orchard and
Osage Community Schools. Dianne spent several years at Opportunity Village
in Clear Lake.
She was united in marriage to Don Lowe in 1979, in Jackson, SD. He preceded
her in death in 1997. After their marriage they made their home in an
apartment in Mason City and they both entered the Good Shepherd Health
Center in Mason City in 1995.
Dianne babysat for various families in the Mason City area and also loved
and enjoyed children. She had a very strong faith and was a member of
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason.
Preceding her in death were her mother Irene in 1971; husband, Don in 1997
and her sister Kay in 1995.
Survivors include her father Mervin Muller and step-mother Phyllis Muller,
both of Nora Springs; three step-brothers, Daryl Roberts of Omaha, NE,
Jerry Roberts and Keith Roberts both of Britt; a step-sister Karen Roberts
of Grapevine, TX; four step-grandchildren Leah, Sonja, Linda and Dustin,
two step-great-grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews
and other relatives and friends.
