OBITUARY: Rudy Hackenmiller, 1921-1996, Mitchell County, Iowa [ From Mason City Globe Gazette, Mason City, Iowa, June 5, 1996 (edited)] Rudy Hackenmiller STACYVILLE, IOWA--Rudy Hackenmiller, 74, of Stacyville, died Monday, June 3, 1996, at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, Osage. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Visitation Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Otting officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery. Visitation will be held today at Hatten Funeral Home. Rudy Hackenmiller was born Sept. 23, 1921, in Stacyville. Survivors include his wife, Marcella Hackenmiller; seven daughters, Sue Rogers, Ruth DeGroff, Elaine Boland, Marilyn Coonradt, Ann Schueller, Doris Taets and Mary Hartogh; three sons, Charles, Alan and Frank; one sister, Margaret Mayer; one brother, Joseph Hackenmiller; 16 grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren. Hadfield, Aaron, 1819-1914

OBITUARY: Aaron Hadfield, 1819-1914, Mitchell Co., Iowa AARON HADFIELD Died Dec 1, 1914, Brownsville, Burr Oak Twp, Mitchell County, Iowa. Farmer and Land owner for almost 50 years in Brownsville. Aaron and his wife Eliza (Cooper) came to the area in 1869 with their son Arthur, and several children of his previous marriage to Elizabeth Darbyshire, who died in January 1866 in Waukesha Wisconsin. Aaron was born in New Mills, Derbyshire, England, 27 May 1819, to John and Ellen (Rangeley) Hadfield. Aaron and Elizabeth and his family, followed other members of the family and had immigrated to Wisconsin from England in 1842. From there his siblings and their children branched out to Iowa, Dakota Territories, Nebraska, Colorado and Washington States. Aaron Hadfield was preceded in death by his wife Eliza Cooper who was buried in the Brownville cemetery on Feb 27, 1899. Mr. Hadfield was a well known major farmer in Brownsville. He was a very active and strong man, and will be missed by all. Survivors include children of the first marriage, James Henry of Seattle, Rangley of Fullerton, Nebraska, Elizabeth (Orr) of Murdo, South Dakota and Harriet (French) of Osage, Iowa. Also three sons and two daughters of Eliza Cooper, Arthur Guy of Washington, Bert of Canada, Clifford of Glenburn, N.D., Maude (Markham) of Osage, and Miss Mertie Hadfield of Brownville who has kept the family home since her mothers death. Also there are thirty grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren. Funeral was held from the Methodist church at Brownville, Dec 4, 1914, the pastor Rev L. O. Thompson, officiating. Burial was in the Brownville Cemetery. Obituary appeared in the News from St Ansgar, Iowa in December of 1914. (Aaron's brother Joseph Hadfield owned and operated successful stone quarries in and around Waukesha and north in Lannon, Wisconsin for a number of years, and served the Chicago area with building materials after the great Chicago fire. A half-brother William Shaw Hadfield was a frontiersman in Logan, Colorado from about 1863, when Aaron's father John immigrated to Waukesha, Wisconsin in 1863 with his remaining family.) OBITUARY: Martha A. (Cummings) Haehn, 1913-2004, Mitchell Co., Iowa Martha A. Haehn A funeral mass for Martha A. Haehn, age 90, of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2004 at St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, with Father John Traufler officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Adams, Minnesota. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004 at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Martha died Sunday, May 9, 2004 at the Grand Meadow Health Care Center in Grand Meadow, Minnesota. Martha A. (Cummings) Haehn was born on August 7, 1913 in Osage, Iowa, to William and Clara (Bird) Cummings. She married John Harold Haehn on October 31, 1932 in Galena, Illinois. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers, and five sisters. She is survived by her son Robert (Marjorie) Haehn of Racine, two daughters, Ann Marie (Robert) Milbrandt of Rochester and Bonnie Jean (Larry) Monson of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Hagen, Joseph 1881-1960

OBITUARY: Joseph Hagen, 1881-1960, Mitchell Co., Iowa Joseph Hagen Funeral services were held here Monday for an Osage man, Joseph Hagen, age 78, who died Friday at Mitchell County Memorial hospital. The Rev. Obert Hoven and the Rev. Walter Gigstad, pastors of Our Savior’s Lutheran church were in charge of the services there. Burial was in the cemetery at Rock Creek. Mr. Hagen had suffered a heart attack March 20th and on April 6th he suffered a paralytic stroke. Joseph Hagen was near Dows, Iowa on October 5, 1881 to Mr. and Mrs. Ole Hagen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Dows, and since coming to Osage, has been an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran church. He was married to Martha Norby on June 19, 1918. They farmed until 1933, when they moved to Osage. He was an employee of the Oliver Corporation in Charles City for a number of years. Surviving are his wife, Martha; one daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Selma) Klemesrud of Japan, who is home on furlough form the mission field; and three grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Laura Anderson of Mason City, and two brothers, Lewis of Dows and Oscar of Clarion also survive. His parents, four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. Haibeck, Elsie 1909-1996

OBITUARY: Elsie Haibeck, 1909-1996, Mitchell County, Iowa [From Mason City Globe Gazette, Mason City, Iowa, Sept. 10, 1996 (edited)] Elsie Haibeck ST. ANSGAR, IOWA--Elsie Haibeck, 87, of St. Ansgar, died Monday, Sept. 9, 1996, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Steele, N.D. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Steele. Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements. Elsie was born on May 25, 1909, in Cogswell, N.D., to Charles and Ella Hatfield Dettloff. She graduated from high school in 1927 at Donnybrook, N.D., and after summer school at Minot State Teachers College. She taught one-room school near Steele, N.D. She married Francis L. Haibeck on Dec. 23, 1930, and to this union were born two daughters. During these years, Elsie was active in church and civic organizations. After the death of her husband, Francis, in 1962, Elsie moved to Freeport, Illinois, and worked at Micro Switch until her retirement in 1974. At that time, she moved to St. Ansgar. She was an avid reader, a member of the Federated Women's Club, the Martha Circle and several bridge clubs. Elsie's life was defined as a wife, mother and grandmother. Elsie entered the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in June of 1995. Her last years were over-shadowed by the pain of osteoporosis and multiple myeloma. Elsie will be missed by daughter, Marlene Haibeck Vorthmann and her husband, Everett, of Freeport, Ill., and daughter, Francene Haibeck Zosulis and her husband, Aivars, of St. Ansgar; as well as grandchildren, Dawn Vorthmann Patton and her husband, Bruce, of Pensacola, Florida; Scott Vorthmann of Memphis, Tenn.; Layne Vorthmann Lovett and her husband, Mark, of Columbus, Ohio; Kari Zosulis Hemann and her husband, Tim, of Lake Summersett, Ill.; and Lori Zosulis of Virginia Beach, Va. She will also be missed by two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Tori Patton; three sisters, Ethel Robinson, Esther Houston, Claire Dray; and one brother, Harry Dettloff, all of Woodland, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis L. Haibeck; her parents; and two brothers, Earl Dettloff and Elmer Dettloff. Halbach, 81, of Stacyville, were held on Thursday, September 5, 2002 at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, Iowa with Father Mark Reasoner and Father Marvin Salz officiating. Burial was in the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville. Mr. Halbach died on September 2, 2002 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar, was in charge of arrangements. Jerome J. Halbach was born on August 24, 1921 to Ernest P. and Veronica (Hermann) Halbach in Stacyville, Iowa. He entered into the U.S. Navy and served his country from 1942 to 1945. Jerome married Monica Salz on August 10, 1954 at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville. He was employed at Theobald Implement as a tractor mechanic for 37 years. Then delivered flowers for Ed's Floral for 15 years. He was a member of the Stacyville Fire Department serving as Fire Chief for many years. Jerome was also on the Stacyville Town Council for 10 years. He enjoyed wood crafting as a hobby. Jerome was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Hale Penny Fuller Post 569 of the American Legion, Stacyville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kenny; two sisters, Alverna Halbach and Kathryn Brumm; one brother, Leo Halbach. Jerome is survived by his wife, Monica of Stacyville; three sons, Ed Halbach and his wife Therese of Stacyville, Joseph Halbach and his wife Deb of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Mark Halbach and his wife Teresa of Glenville, Minnesota; three daughters, Jeanne Traaseth and her husband Pete of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, Angie Kruger of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Paula Halbach of Minneapolis, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Danielle and Jacklyn Halbach, Stacey Kruger and Leah Traaseth; one brother William Halbach and his wife Shirley of Grundy Center, Iowa; sister Edith Halbach; brother-in-law Francis Brumm of Stacyville; sister-in-law Maxine Halbach of Austin, Minnesota. Halbach, John 1918-2006

OBITUARY: John F. Halbach, 1918-2006, Mitchell County, Iowa [ Original verison posted Feb. 1, 2006 on www.mcpress.com ] John F. Halbach Services for John F. Halbach were held Saturday, January 28, 2006 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, in Cedar Falls, Iowa; with interment in the Fairview Cemetery, also in Cedar Falls. John died Thursday, January 26, 2006, at the Western Home Communities-Stanard Assisted Living Center in Cedar Falls. John was born March 15, 1918 in Stacyville, Iowa, the son of Peter and Mary (Brumm) Halbach. On August 21, 1945 he married Rose Comisky in Osage, Iowa. He graduated from the IC Academy in Charles City in 1936 and Iowa State University in 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and trained as a heavy bomber pilot and airplane commander. His crew of 10 finished 50 combat missions with the 15AF in Italy. All returned home and three members still living. Following the war, he farmed near Osage for 20 years. He then worked as a milk sanitarian for the Carnation Company in Waterloo and finally as a sanitarian for the city of Waterloo. He was a past president of the Iowa, Milk and Food Sanitation Association of Iowa. John was a member of American Legion, AMVETS, Knights of Columbus and on the Board of Directors at the Western Home Communities. He was very active as a volunteer with the Cedar Falls Historical Society, Sartori Hospital, and the Red Cross National Disaster Teams. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include three sons, Thomas (Sally) of Boise, Idaho, Gerald (Patrice) of North Oaks, Minnesota, and Michael (Valerie) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three daughters, Anne (John) Hartson of Iowa City, Jane (Richard) Westley of Madison, Wisconsin, and Patricia (Harold) Moore of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Agnes Buch of Elgin, Illinois, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carl and Marcella Obermeier of New Hope, Minn. OBITUARY: Ray Halbach, Mitchell County, Iowa [ Mitchell County Press online -- www.pcpress.com -- July 10, 2001 ] Ray Halbach [1908-2001] Funeral services were held Saturday, July 7, 2001 at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, for Ray Halbach, age 93, of Stacyville. Rev. Joseph Schneider officiated and interment was in Visitation Catholic Cemetery. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, in charge of arrangements. He died Monday, July 2, 2001 at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home. Ray was born April 22, 1908 in Stacyville the son of Nick and Rose (Brumm) Halbach. Ray was united in marriage to Gertrude Kraus on February 18, 1939 in Stacyville. He took over Halbach Dairy, his father’s business, in Stacyville delivering milk until 1946. He farmed southeast of Stacyville. Ray was involved with the construction and opening of the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in 1972 and served as administrator for 12 years. When he entered the nursing home in 1992, some of the original employees he hired were still working there. Ray was a memberof the Catholic Order of Foresters for over 75 years. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Gertrude on January 10, 1992; two brothers, Wilfred and Al; two sisters, Irene Kinney and Olive Hemann; and great-grandson, Daniel Schildmeyer. Rose was born February 12, 1922 in Osage, IA the daughter of Clement and Ruth Agnes (Byrnes) Comisky. She received her B.S.N. degree from Mt. Mercy College, School of Nursing and went on to serve her country in the United States Navy during World War II. She was united in marriage to John F. Halbach in Osage on August 21, 1945. Rose was employed as a registered nurse at Osage Community Hospital, then Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo and finally at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She was a member of the American Red Cross disaster team. Rose's parents preceded her in death. OBITUARY: Therese Durben Halbach, 1960-2003, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Mitchell County Press-News, online, www.mcpress.com, Posted 5 FEB 2003] Therese Halbach Funeral services for Therese Halbach, age 42, of Stacyville, IA were held Saturday, February 1, 2003 at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. Reverend Mark Reasoner officiated. Burial was in Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville. Therese passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at her home. Therese Halbach was born July 16, 1960 in Osage, IA to Lester and Ann (Runde) Durben. She graduated from St. Ansgar High School and then completed the Floriculture Program at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, IA. She worked at a flower shop in Grinnell, IA for three years. She married Ed Halbach on September 11, 1982 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer, IA. Ed and Therese started Ed's Floral, a retail and wholesale plant business in 1981. In 1986 they opened another full service retail Flower Shop in LeRoy, MN. Therese was a long-time board member of the St. Ansgar Dollar for Scholars. She was respected in the community for countless volunteer hours at the nursing home, fund raisers and civic events. She was active in the Visitation Church Christian Mothers and kept the church beautiful with flowers. Her floral- design talents touched many people's lives as did her smile, kindness and compassion. Her personality was an expression of her sincerity. Therese enjoyed gardening, reading, entertaining and visiting with family and friends. She will be dearly missed by her many close friends and family. Preceding Therese in death were her paternal grandparents Arthur and Louise Durben, maternal grandparents Theodore and Pauline Runde and father-in-law Jerome Halbach. She is survived by her husband Ed of Stacyville, IA; her parents Ann and Lester Durben of Meyer, IA, three sisters Sheila Durben of Meyer, IA; Brenda Jensen, her husband Del, and their two children Ami and Alex of Plymouth, MN; Marlene Weis, her husband Rob and their three children Brittany, Willie and Ben of Meyer, IA. She was also admired and loved by her mother-in-law Monica Halbach of Stacyville, IA; three sisters-in-law, Jeanne Traaseth, her husband Pete and daughter Leah of Brooklyn Park, MN, Angie Kruger and daughter Stacey of St. Ansgar, IA, Paula Halbach of Minneapolis, MN; two brothers-in-law Joe Halbach, his wife Deb and their two daughters Danielle and Jackie of Coon Rapids, MN, Mark Halbach and his wife Teresa of Glenville, MN. Hall, Etta Eliza 1859-1921

OBITUARY: Etta Eliza Hall, 1859-1921, Mitchell County, Iowa Etta Eliza Hall Etta Eliza Hall, daughter of William and Martha Lambert Hall, was born in Wayne township, Mitchell County, Iowa, May 14, 1859, and died at McIntire, Iowa, June 22, 1921, at the age of 62 years, 1 month, and 8 days. She was married December 22, 1881, to Victor L. Duryee, to which union four children were born, three of whom, together with her husband, survive her and were at her bedside when death came. They are Mrs. May Hopkins and Harry Duryee of McIntire, and Mrs. Ethel Hall of Spring Valley, Minnesota. Another daughter, Lola, died March 1 of last year. Deceased became a member of the Baptist church in Wayne Township in 1873 and was always a faithful and tireless worker in the church and its auxiliary branches. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge and the Riceville W.C.T.U. Funeral services were conducted on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Baptist church, McIntire, in charge of Rev. OBITUARY: John S. Hall, c1816-1888, Mitchell Co., Iowa Source: Nashua Post. copyright Claudia Groh IAGENWEB John S. Hall John S. Hall died at Mitchell, Iowa, on Tuesday morning, aged 71 years, of lung trouble. Mr. Hall was one of the early settlers of this place. He came here from St. Lawrence Co., N.Y. Funeral services were held at Mitchell yesterday. The remains were brought to this place on yesterday afternoon's train, and buried at Oak Hill. He was the father of our townsman, Dyer F. Hall. The other children are Enoch W., Hollis, Darwin, Ace, Belle, and Allen, all living at Mitchell. His wife also survives him. Halverson, age 93, of Osage. Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiated. Interment was in the Osage Cemetery. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, in charge of arrangements. He died Wed., Feb. 26, 2002 at the Faith Lutheran Home, Osage. Bentley A. Halverson was born Aug. 21, 1908 near St. Ansgar the son of Carl and Sedsel (Evenson) Halverson. He graduated from Osage High School and worked at various jobs until starting farming near Orchard in 1932. Ben was united in marriage to Helen Mauser on Mar. 6, 1934 at her parent's home near New Haven. In 1942 they purchased a farm near McIntire where they lived until their retirement in 1972. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Harold Halverson and Conrad Halverson; two sisters, Olga Halverson and Millie Neuberger. Halverson, Inger 1834-1911

OBITUARY: Inger Halverson, 1834-1911, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Osage News September 26, 1911 ] Mrs. Inger Halverson Mrs. Inger Halverson was born at Wilmington, Houston Co., Minn., in September 1834. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at that place. In 1875 she was married to Lars Halvorson. To this union 9 children were born. Three of these have passed away earlier namely: Helmer, Ida and Oscar. The following children survive her and together with their father mourn the loss of a beloved mother and wife; Gina, Luella, Isabella, who are present on this occassion. Mrs. R. Piper is on her way to California and is therefore unable to return in time for the funeral. Carl and Syver Halverson were on their way to North Dakota when Mrs. Halverson died and are also unable to attend the funeral today. The funeral was held Wednesday at the U.N. Lutheran church and the remains were laid to rest at the U.N.L. cemetery north of town. OBITUARY: Lois M. (Halverson) Havig, Mitchell County, Iowa [ Mitchell County Press www.mcpress.com July 3, 2001 ] Lois M. (Halverson) Havig [1934-2001] A memorial service will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 415 West 53rd St., Davenport, Iowa on Saturday, July 7, 2001 at 2 pm for Lois Maurine Havig. No flowers please, instead make contributions to Prince of Peace Memorial Fund for Lois Havig. Lois was born June 22, 1934 the eldest daughter of Harold and Frances Halverson. Lois attended school in St. Ansgar and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1952. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Lois married Wayland Havig. They were the parents of a daughter, Laurie Frances Havig and Russell Wayland Havig. They have five grandchildren; Joseph Loerzel, Jonathan Loerzel, Sara Loerzel, Jessica Havig, Michael Havig; and one great-granddaughter, Kyaunna Loerzel, all living in Davenport. Lois was employed at Home Trust & Savings Bank in Osage for three years until moving to Riverside, California in 1957; then to Mason City, IA and moved to Davenport in 1966 where she was employed by the Davenport School System for 22 1/2 years. She then worked at John Deere, Mt. Joy Plant and Sear Manufacturing and for Menard Maintenance retiring in 1997. Lois enjoyed music, played the piano, organ and sang in the church choir. Her hobbies were yard work, sewing, crocheting and working jig-saw puzzles. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren and her pets. She enjoyed traveling in their R-V for 2 1/2 years. Preceding her in death were her parents. Those that survive her include her husband Wayland; their children, Laurie Loerzel and Russell Havig and his fiance Joann VanGorder all of Davenport; a sister, Sylvia Sprung of LaMoile, IL and her brother, Keith Halvorson of Leawood, KS. Halvorson, Alfred 1816-1981

OBITUARY: Harry Alfred Halvorson, 1916-1981, Mitchell County, Iowa Alfred Halvorson Funeral Held Saturday, January 2 Funeral services for Alfred Halvorson, 65, who died at his home in Plainview, Minn. December 30, were held January 2 at the Immanuel Lutheran church in Plainview with the Rev. Gerald Peterson officiating. Harry Alfred Halvorson, son of George and Lena Halvorson, was born April 10, 1916 in St. Ansgar. He graduated from St. Ansgar high school in 1934. He entered military service in 1941 and served at sea aboard the USS San Diego throughout World War II. He married Dorothy Gilchrist December 24, 1943 in Los Angeles, Calif. The couple became residents of Plainview, Minn. in 1946 where he joined the Case Implement Co. In 1951 Mr. Halvorson became an employee of the First National bank of Plainview, retiring in June of 1981 as vice president. At the time of his death he was president of the Plainview Low Cost Housing Development Program and was finance officer of the Plainview American Legion. He was also a member of the Plainview VFW Post. Mr. Halvorson is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a brother, Avery of St. Ansgar; two sisters, Mrs. Lenore Grell of Mason City and Mrs. Lloyd (Ruth) Kroneman of St. Ansgar. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery, Plainview, with Rev. Peterson in charge of the committal services. Graveside military honors were accorded by the Plainview American Legion Post. Halvorson, Alice Huset 1887-1946

OBITUARY: Alice Dorothy (Huset) Halvorson, 1887-1946, Mitchell County, Iowa Alice Dorothy Huset Halvorson Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 5th at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church for Mrs. Iver Halvorson, age 59. Mrs. Halvorson died at her home southwest of Osage early Monday morning June 3, 1946 after a long illness. Officiating at the rites was the Rev. S.O. Sorlien, church pastor. Burial was in the Rock Creek cemetery. Alice Dorothy Huset, daughter of Ole and Carrie Huset, was born in Black River Falls, WI on February 20, 1887. She was baptized in the faith of the Lutheran church in Wisconsin and was confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church near Osage. On June 25, 1912, she was united in marriage with Iver Halvorson of Osage. To this union two children were born. Survivors include her husband; one son, Howard; and a daughter, Clarice, both at home; and a sister, Mrs. Carl Johnson of Northwood, IA. Funeral services for Andrew Halvorson, who passed away at his home two miles south of town last week Wednesday, were held Saturday afternoon at one-thirty at the home and two o'clock at the First Lutheran church. Rev. Olaf A. Langehough officiated at the services and Rev. Chr. Heltne of Spring Grove, Minn., a relative, spoke briefly in behalf of members of the family. Burial was made in Riverview Cemetery,

Halvorson, Anna 1884-c1968

OBITUARY: Anna Helena "Lena" (Tollefson) Halvorson, 1884-c1968, Mitchell, IA Mrs. Lena Halvorson Funeral Held First Lutheran Funeral services for Mrs. Anna H. (Lena) Halvorson, 84, who died Friday, March 28, at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar, were held Monday, March 31, at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. Don Comnick officiating. Lena Halvorson was born August 28, 1884, at St. Ansgar, the daughter of Theodore and Liev (Rust) Tollefson. She was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. Johan Olsen in the First Lutheran church, St. Ansgar. On October 14, 1908, she was united in marriage to George Halvorson, by the Rev. M. E. Waldeland of the First Lutheran church. They farmed until the fall of 1939 when they retired and moved into St. Ansgar. In October of 1958, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Halvorson taught Sunday School for a number of years and was a faithful and willing worker for her church and church organizations until her health wouldn't permit it any longer. She was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother and always a helpful and true friend to all. Her husband preceded her in death in January of 1961. She is survived by her four children: Mrs. Alvin (Lenore) Grell, Mason City; Avery, of St. Ansgar; Alfred of Plainview, Minn.; and Mrs. Lloyd (Ruth) Kroneman of St. Ansgar. Also surviving are her nine grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and other relatives. Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. OBITUARY: Dorothy Halvorson, 1918-1996, Mitchell County, Iowa [From Mason City Globe Gazette, Mason City, Iowa, March 27, 1996 (edited)] Dorothy Halvorson STACYVILLE--Dorothy Halvorson, 77, of Stacyville, died Monday, March 25, 1996, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Cemetery, Plainview, Minn. There will be no other services and no visitation. Champion Funeral Home, Osage, is in charge of arrangements. Dorothy Halvorson was born Oct. 29, 1918, near Osage. Survivors include three sisters, Catherine Hennings of Davenport, Mary Ann Owen of Cedar Rapids and Barbara Krebsbach of Stacyville; and one brother, Richard Gilchrist of Orange, Calif.
