OBITUARY: Jennie (Wilsie) Dow, -1898, Mitchell County, Iowa
[Feb. 24, 1898]
NEWS STORY--
Frank Wilsie
Frank Wilsie, charged with the murder of his sister, Mrs. Jennie Dow, after
14 days trial at Charles City, was convicted of manslaughter by the jury.
Public sympathy was with Wilsie and a verdict of acquittal was anticipated.
He was sentenced by Judge Clyde to six months in the penitentiary and to pay
a fine of $500.
Dow and his wife were riding together in a buggy. Wilsie came out to the
road as they were passing his residence, unfriendly relations having existed
between the two men, hot words passed, when Wilsie seized a large rock and
hurled it at Dow. It struck his sister, knocking her from the buggy. She
was picked up insensible and died the next day.
The defense was that she died from natural causes.

OBITUARY: Martin Dowd, Mitchell County, Iowa
Martin Dowd
The friends of Martin Dowd in this vicinity were shocked to learn of his
sudden death from heart failure last Monday, at his home near Owattona Minn.
The deceased was born and raised in Douglas Township, this county, where he
lived until about a year ago, when he went to Minnesota. He was 33 years of
age and last November was married to Miss Deb Morrisy of New Haven, and was
here only last Friday on a visit to relatives, being accompanied home by his
mother who was with him at the time of his death.
The funeral was held at Sacred Heart Church yesterday, conducted by Rev.
Father Martin, after which the body was taken to New Haven for burial in the
Catholic cemetery at that place, where a father and two sisters are also buried.
The deceased was well and favorably known by a large circle of friends in
this county. The sudden affliction that has befallen the wife of only a few
short months is deeply sorrowful and the sympathy of her old home friends is
extended at this trying time.
Martin had eaten a hearty supper about 7 o'clock Monday evening, after which
he complained of sharp pains in the region of his heart and died in less than
2 hours.

OBITUARY: Jennie Doyle, 1818-1895, Mitchell County, Iowa
[Source: Mitchell County Press-News or Mason City Globe Gazette]
Death of Miss Jennie Doyle
The friends of Miss Jennie Doyle were very much surprised to hear that
her life had gone out so suddenly, at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning. They
knew she was sick, seriously so, but did not anticipate her death.
Miss Doyle was teaching in Douglas township. A week ago Saturday her
brother sent for her but she said she was not very well and thought
she would remain over Sunday at her boarding place. On Monday following
she got worse, was taken home and a physician was called to her bedside.
The trouble was acute mania from which she was delirious all that time.
Monday night she became quiet and slept for a few hours, the first for
nearly a week. While in that condition she quietly passed out of life
and its troubles into eternity.
She was the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. William Doyle and born at Walton,
Nova Scotia, September 19, 1818. Coming with her parents to this county
in 1856, she resided here nearly forty years. For many years she was a
teacher in this county and for a while in the public schools of Waverly.
She has worked hard to make special preparation for that work in which
she took special interest. Her home was with her brother, Stephen Doyle
near Riceville, most of the time but was often found with her sisters,
Mrs. Greeley, Mrs. N. J. Moss, Mrs. Foster of Waverly and Mrs. E. P.
Shipherd, of Osage. Miss Doyle was a lady of Christian character, and
we think, a member of the M. E. church.
The funeral services occur today at the M. E. church in this city
conducted by Rev. E. J. Lockwood.

Mrs. Alvira Richardson-Dugan was born August 13, 1846 and died April 1, 1917.
She was born at Rei, in Ripley county Ind. and departed this life at Osage,
Iowa, age 70 years of age. She was the oldest of seven children, five

She came to Minnesota in the early 60's and in that state spent the greater
part of her life. She first came to Osage about eighteen years ago and had
been there much of time since then. In the year 1879 she was married to
