The first marriage recorded in the Mitchell County books was 1856 -- (specifically, Madison RICE and Emeline KNAPP, on 27 April 1856, by Co. Judge Moore. Rev. C.L. Clausen of St. Ansgar reported his first marriage as of June 18, 1854. He reported the marriages he performed separately in the years 1854 and 1855. --
