Biographical Sketch

Arnold E. Dieterich

 

Arnold Dieterich was born on September 11, 1922 in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, to Carl J. and Bertha Kroneman Dieterich.

He was married to Jeanette Coonradt, in Osage, on December 7, 1947. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. Arnold and Jeanette lived on the old Dieterich farmstead two miles south of St. Ansgar for many years, where they engaged in farming. After retirement, they moved to northern Minnesota.

During World War II Arnie served in the United States Marine Corp., fighting in Guam and Okinawa.

"Arnold was a sharpshooter during World War II, and was trained in combat intelligence school to go into an area ahead of the troops and to scout out the area."

"Some of the fiercest fighting took place in Okinawa, where he was at."
