Early Towns and Post Offices

Many small towns of Mills County are now gone. One such town was St. Mary, located on the Iowa side, south of Bellvue, Nebraska. It supported two taverns, a number of stores, a Catholic chapel and several other businesses such as windmill powered grist mill and a shingle factory. In the 1860s the Missouri River shifted its course and the entire town of St. Mary was destroyed
