SILVER CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY
On July 1, 1977 the new Home Rule law went into effect. The Library
thereafter was managed by a committee, recommended by the Woman’s Club and
approved by the City Council, with the Town Clerk acting as Treasurer
(currently Ellen Damewood). One committee member is replaced each year.

Librarians who have served through the years since the Library’s beginning
are Clotilda Lawson, Dora Clipson, Bessie Parker, Nell Sawyer, Minnie
Hays, Pearl Piatt, Essie Kruse, Loretta Ramsey, Carol Markel and Bernice
Darnold.
Bernice and Essie are present librarians with Carol Markel conducting the
children’s story hour. The Children’s Summer Reading Programs have been
organized and managed by Loretta Ramsey.
The Library donated a picture of the children in the 1979 Reading Program
to the Centennial Committee to bury in the Time Capsule on October 7,
1979.
The Library sponsored a spelling bee at the Centennial celebration.
