Mills County, Iowa

Early Towns

Note: Many small towns of Mills County are now gone. One such town was St. Mary, located on the Iowa side, south of Bellvue, Nebraska. It supported two taverns, a number of stores, a Catholic chapel and several other businesses such as a windmill powered grist mill and a shingle factory. In the 1860s the Missouri River shifted its course and the entire town of St. Mary was destroyed
