This picture is for Rollin Edward Bailey Sr.; 8611 9th Avenue SW Seattle, Washington. Passed on to Edward Louis (Lewis) Bailey, 15035 SW Thistle Street, Seattle, Washington.
This picture was taken “about 1893” but probably closer to 1894 at Glenwood, Iowa home of feeble-minded children. These are the workers. Rollin C Bailey and Mary Ann Segraves became acquainted here, and married in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, on November 6, 1896. They were both 19 years old. They worked here after they were married. Rollin C. is first, to your right, in the front row. Mary Ann is third, from your right, in second row. Mary Ann has long hair, and you can see her belt buckle.
The “inmates” stayed even after they were adults. One of the inmates made this frame and gave it to Mary Ann in 1894. Rolin’s grandmother, Margaret Vitty Segraves, born February 16, 1856 at Staindrop, England, came to America (1886) into Canada, gave the frame, picture and rose from Mary Ann’s funeral (Feb 21, 1911) to Morris C Bailey on January 1927.
Edward is also to have Rollin C. and Mary Ann’s wedding picture, given to Morris by Aunt Sara Segraves (unintelligible) while she lived at Fullerton, NE (over).
Margaret Vitty and John Segraves where born in England. Margaret died Jan 3, 1930. John died Jan 4, 1919.
