SMITH FAMILY ENJOY REUNION SUNDAY, NOV. 15
FOUR BROTHERS, THREE SISTERS AND MOTHER MET IN GEO. SMITH HOME
Malvern Leader
November 19, 1931
On Sunday, Nov. 15, the Smith family had a reunion at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Smith south west of Malvern. Not all of the Smiths were there, but four brothers, three sisters, thirteen grandchildren and the mother, Mrs. Frank Smith were there. Rev. and Mrs. L.R. Bobbitt were also guests.
This was the first family gathering when all the family could be present, in four years.
At 1 o’clock the call for dinner was heard and quickly responded to by falling in line and marching around a regular Thanksgiving dinner table where each and all helped themselves in cafeteria style, except there was no price list of the eats to be seen. There was duck, chicken, and goose with all the extra trimmings. “They say every man cooks his own goose when he gets hot.”
The story of the war was told over again at this gathering as one brother, a disabled World war soldier, was present. While in camp in the United States, he received what is believed to have been a shot full of the germs of spinal meningitis from a German spy doctor. He receives a pension which he deserves and more. Who wants war? It would seem no one would.
Late Sunday evening the family scattered each going to their home, bound a little closer by the ties of blood kinship, and this happy getting together with “Mother” and each other.
