ROLAND RELATIVES MEET FOR REUNION IN COUNCIL BLUFFS
SPEND DAY IN FAIRMONT PARK; PLAN FOR EVENT NEXT YEAR

The Roland family reunion held at Fairmont park in Council Bluffs Aug. 27 with an attendance of about 60 members. After a bountiful dinner the business session was conducted by the president, C.A. Williams. It was decided to have the last union at the same place the last Sunday in August, 1934. The following officers were elected: president, Mrs. Lee A. Roland; vice president, T.A. Kirkwood; secretary and treasurer, Claude Williams; historian; Geo. Colver, Mrs. J.E. Kirkwood, Mrs. T.A. Kirkwood, and Mrs. E. Gash; program committee: Mrs. B.F. French, Mrs. Albert Larsen, Mrs. Clarence Haight.

The program which followed was several times interrupted by light showers of rain. A letter sent by Jas. T. Roland of Long Pine, Nebr. was read. Geo. Colver of Missouri Valley gave a history of the Roland family dating back to 1863. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Claude Williams and family and C.A. Williams, Glenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Lee A. Roland and son, Robert, Malvern; Mr. and Mrs. I.C. Nuss, Virginia, Grace, and Herschel, Pacific Junction; Mr. and Mrs. T.A. Kirkwood and granddaughter, Rosemary, Weston; Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Kirkwood, Nelle, Mary, and James, Long Pine, Nebr.; Francis Chambers and daughters, Geo. Colver and daughters and granddaughter, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Larson and family, Mr. and Mrs. E. Gash, Henry Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Miller, all of Missouri Valley; Mr. and Mrs. C. Haight, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Foutch and family, Dunlap; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Chambers, Little Sioux; Mrs. B.F. French and sons, Darrell and Ward, Crescent; W.T. Roland and sons and daughter, Mrs. Sid Britton, and granddaughter, Ruby Marie, Superior, Nebr.


ROLAND FAMILY REUNION HELD AT CHADRON, NEB.

An item of interest to many, taken from the newspaper at Hemingford, Neb., tells of a family reunion held honoring C.E. Roland, former well known resident of this community.

The account of the affair reads as follows: A family reunion was held Sunday, Aug. 19, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Roland near Chadron. The occasion was the birthday anniversary of C.E. Roland. A lovely dinner was enjoyed at noon, including lots of ice cream and cake. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. John Powles and children Ruby, Inez and Flossie Marie of Pacific Junction; Lee Roland of Plattsmouth; John Roland and wife and children Charles, Paul Delbert and Ardith Jean, Mrs. Edith Hunter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Warren and children Doris, Darlene and Buddy, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Roland and children Wayne, Clifford, Loretta and Glennis, Clifford Roland and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Roland and children Marshall, Dale, Delores, Shirley and Keith, and Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Roland. This was the first time in 18 years that Mr. Roland and his five sons had all been together at one time.


EIGHTY DESCENDANTS GATHER FOR DINNER AND PROGRAM

September 9, 1935

The descendants of James and Eliza Roland met in their tenth annual reunion Aug. 25 at Missouri Valley with 50 in attendance. The morning was spent in greetings and making the acquaintance of new members of the clan. At noon an elaborate basket dinner graced the table which all partook of and enjoyed. The meeting following was called to order by the president, Mrs. Lee A. Roland. The program consisted of roll call, short talks of early day pioneering and events up to the present time and reading of communications from those who could not attend.

The secretary reported the following births during the year; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Larson and a son to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Miller. One marriage took place; Robert Chambers and Miss Mendenhall. Deaths reported the past year were; Clark Prayther, MissouriValley, Mr. Colver and son drowned in the Republican valley flood, Tommy Osborne drowned while swimming in the Yakima river, Washington. Mrs. Martha Roland of Detroit, Mich., who is visiting her sisters in Tabor, was unable to attend due to illness. The officers elected for the ensuing year are; president, George Colver, Missouri Valley; vice president, Mrs. Mattie French, Crescent; secretary-treasurer, Claude E. Williams, Glenwood.

At a late hour in the day all left for their homes planning to return to Missouri Valley the last Sunday in August, 1936. Those in attendance were; Albert Larson and family, Mrs. Charity Hodges, Geo. Colver, Francis Chambers, Herschel Barton and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Roland and son, Mr. and Mrs. Teddy Gosh, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Miller and Edward, Miss Hazel Chambers, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Chambers, Misses Margaret and Mary Chambers, Missouri Valley. Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Dempsie, Spirit Lake, W.W. Currie and family, and Harry Martins and family, Loveland; Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Haight and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Foutch, Mrs. Rose Brandon, Omaha; Donald Brandon and family, Mondamin; Mr. and Mrs. Ira Nuss, Mr. and Mrs. John Powles, Pacific Junction; Clyde Ellison and family, Rubert Haight, Logan; Mrs. Lela Freece and children, Onawa; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Chambers, Little Sioux; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Chambers and daughter, and Evelyn Jacobsen, Redfield, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. B.F. ROLAND FAMILY REUNION HELD AT MISSOURI VALLEY

September 14, 1936

The descendants of James and Eliza Roland, early settlers of Pottawattamie, Harrison and Mills counties, met in their 11th annual reunion with 127 in attendance, as compared to the first reunion ever held at the C.A. Williams home in 1920, when 50 were present.

The morning was spent in greetings and making new acquaintances. At noon an elaborate basket dinner graced the table, and after the blessing by J.E. Kirkwood all partook of the delicious dinner.

The president and vice president being absent the meeting was called to order by J.E. Kirkwood. The program consisted of songs, recitations, tap dancing and short talks by most all present, and reading several letters from those who could not attend. The secretary has received the following birth announcements since last year; Mr. and Mrs. Clark Hodges, Missouri Valley, a son,; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Roland, Detroit, Mich., a daughter; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Martin, Loveland, Iowa, a son. ANNUAL REUNION OF ROLAND DESCENDANTS

September 1, 1938

The 13th annual reunion of the descendants of James and Eliza Roland, early settlers of Pottawattamie, Harrison and Mills counties met at Missouri Valley Park Sunday with 85 present. The morning was spent in greetings and sports. At noon the well filled baskets were emptied upon a long table. After dinner the president, Albert Chambers, called the meeting to order. The minutes of the last year’s meeting were read and approved. Letters of greeting were read from several who were unable to attend. Mrs. Lee Roland told of the Missouri river flood in Pacific Junction, making it impossible for some to attend. The following officers were elected; president, Art Chambers; vice president, George Colver; secretary and treasurer, Claude Williams; assistant secretary, Mrs. Guy Foutch.

The following program was given: song, Teddy Gash; reading, Virgil Kirkwood; Pheasants of South Dakota, Art Chambers; short talks. It was voted next year for each family to have one part in the program. The meeting place is to be at the Missouri Valley Park and the last Sunday in August. Present were: Geo. L. Colver, Mrs. F.C.
