The spacious home of Mr. and Mrs. Minnie Dent on Chestnut street, was the scene of a very delightful family reunion Sunday, July 19, at which time more than 50 descendants of the late John and Angie Dalton Phifer, well known early day residents of Oak township, each being members of pioneer families who located there in the early 50’s, assembled with well filled baskets to enjoy the hospitality of this pleasant home together.
The tables fairly groaned ‘neath their load of the best of everything known to culinary art, and also presented a most attractive appearance being charmingly decorated with bouquets of beautiful roses---a gift to the hostess from some of the company.
A merry social afternoon was spent despite the intense heat of the day. As the evening hours approached, all retired to the beautiful lawn where at small tables ice cream, cake and coffee was being enjoyed when the terrific dust storm borne on the wings of an 84-mile-an-hour wind paid its compliments to our fair city, sending this merry party indoors leaving their chairs and tables to the fury of the storm which soon buried them ’neath dust, tree limbs and other debris.
When the storm abated and evening came with its cooling breezes bringing to a close this eventful day, the happy company bade their hostess adieu, with plans to meet again next year.
Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Anderson and sons Darrell and Kenneth, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Anderson and children, Beverly and Jean, Mr. and Mrs. Paul James and children Romona and Donald, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Phifer and daughter Iola, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Anderson and Sid Bolton, all of Council Bluffs.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ryan, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Green and daughter Marian, Mr. and Mrs. William Miller and daughter Evelyn Marie and Elda May Green, all of Harlan; Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Anderson, of Dumfries.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Plumb and daughter Betty, of Hastings; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Saar and children Jane, Joan, Jimmie and Mary Lou, of Malvern; Miss Grace Napp, of Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Wilcox and children, Beulah, Darlene, Blair Laval and Lewarren, Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Wilcox and Clair Clark, all of Glenwood; Clifford Saar, Des Moines, and the hostess, Mrs. Dent.
