One of the most enthusiastic Homecomers was Mrs. Rose La Chapelle of Denver, a former Glenwood resident who lived here for thirty years. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Lyon, were proprietors of a hardware, pump and windmill store that was located on Sharp street between Walnut and Locust.
Her husband, the late Joseph LaChapelle who passed away in 1927, was publisher of the Mills County Journal for eleven years. The office was located over the present location of the Holmes Furniture Store. They later moved to Ashland, Nebr. where Mr. LaChappel published the Saundars County Journal. He was in the Nebraska legislature for three terms.
For the past twenty-one years Mrs. LaChappel has lived in Denver. Although 82 years of age, she is very active. She attends opportunity school three days a week where she is learning dress making and millinery.
