TRI-COUNTY OLD SETTLERS

Old Settlers Met in Sidney, October 16
Malvern Leader
October 21, 1937
Nearly 200 Present in Spite of Inclement Weather Conditions

Approximately 200 persons braved the inclement weather last Saturday to attend the Tri-County Old Settlers annual association meeting in Sidney. Many of the plans for the day had to be rearranged and some cancelled because of the rain. A basket dinner was served in the Methodist church at noon.

An election of officers was held during the day at which Harvey Dean of Glenwood was given the honor of presidency. Mr. Dean succeeds Chas. Beno of Council Bluffs in this capacity. Representing Mills, Pottawattamie and Fremont counties, respectively, as vice presidents were chosen Clyde Genung, Glenwood; Henry Smith, Macedonia; A.L. Chantry, Sidney. H.M. Logan of Glenwood will act as secretary in the place of Thomas Belford of Council Bluffs.

Bestowed upon Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Moore of Tabor was the honor of being the oldest couple present, Mr. Moore being 82 years old and Mrs. Moore 87. Addie Wilson, 82, of Sidney received the distinction of being the oldest native born woman present and Hiram Brown, 92, of Hamburg was similarly honored as being the oldest native born man.

The oldest couple coming the longest distance was Mr. and Mrs. Willoughby Dye Sr. of Macedonia.

Featured on the day's program were addresses by Congressman Otha D. Wearin of Hastings and Truman Stevens of Hamburg, former justice of the Iowa supreme court, but neither of the speakers were able to make the trip. Mr. Chantry of Sidney presided over the meeting. Short talks were given by various members.

Next annual meeting is scheduled to be held in Glenwood.
