DESCENDANTS OF LEVI DAVIS MEET

About 150 descendants of Levi Davis who was born in Moore county, North Carolina in 1766 and whose family located in Iowa in 1855, met at Fairmont Park in Council Bluffs Sunday, September 11,
and enjoyed a picnic and “get acquainted” afternoon. This was the first attempt at a reunion and it was voted a success and plans were made to have it become an annual affair.
The next picnic will be held at Glenwood Lake park the second Sunday in September, 1928. An organization was considered necessary to arrange for this picnic and money was donated for expenses. Mrs. Henry Shaw
of Tabor was chosen president, Mrs. Fred Davis, secretary and M.T. Davis, treasurer.

A most delightful reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred G. Davis, south of Glenwood Sunday, October 23 when relatives of both Mr. and Mrs. Davis gathered to spend the day making all
together forty-one present, all arriving for 8 o’clock breakfast, which was prepared by the hostess. At 2:30 o’clock a dinner was served from two long tables arranged in the dining room consisting
of fried chicken and all the trimmings. Other features of the day were visiting, singing, horseshoe games, gathering the beautiful colors of fall from the wild woods, gathering nuts, also many
pictures were taken on the merry gathering and at a late hour candy and apples were passed to all and the happy crowd departed to their houses hoping to repeat this occasion again next year.

DAVIS FAMILY REUNION SUNDAY

Ninety-nine attended the ancestry picnic and reunion of the descendants of Levi Davis, who was born in North Carolina in 1776, which was held at the lake park here Sunday. Dinner was served in the pavilion at noon.
They all joined in the singing of "America" and the "Iowa Corn Song."
Following the dinner hour a short business session was held at which time the following officers were elected: President--Mrs. Cora Shaw, Tabor; Secretary and Treasurer, Mrs. Abbie Tarpening,
Tabor, Historian, Mrs. Charlie Dick, Glenwood.
Taylor Davis of Malvern was the oldest member of the family present and shared the honors with Mrs. Tacy Dillehay of Malvern who was the second oldest person. The youngest was the infant daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Everett Shaw of Tabor.
This was the second annual reunion of the members of this family, the first having been held last year at Fairmont Park in Council Bluffs. It was decided this year to meet again on the second Sunday
in September next year at the Lake park here in Glenwood. Among those families present this year were the following: Mr. and Mrs. Percy Wheeler and family, Mr. and Mrs. P. Barthold, Mrs. Mary Henning

DAVIS FAMILY REUNION HELD IN RED OAK AUG. 21

The descendants of the Jas. R. Davis family gathered last Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Chautauqua park in Red Oak for their eighth annual reunion. There were seventy-nine members and two visitors present to enjoy the occasion.
Following the dinner a business meeting was held and the following officers for the coming year: L.D. Pratt, president; R.E. Carson, vice president; Mrs. Jessie Fisher, secretary and treasurer, and Pearl E. McLain,
press correspondent. It was voted to hold the reunion the third Sunday in August next year and Red Oak is the permanent meeting place.
There have been four deaths among the members of this group since the reunion last year.

Glenwood Armory Scene of Annual Davis Family Reunion. Interesting Program Presented. Mrs. Dick Presides as President.
The descendants of Robert Davis met for their annual picnic at the armory in Glenwood Sunday. After enjoying a big fried chicken dinner the business meeting was conducted by Mrs. Mabel Dick, retiring president.
Mrs. Abbie Tarpening gave the secretary and treasurer's reports.
The following officers were elected: Mrs. Margaret Stinard of Albany, N.Y., president; Mrs. Effie Anderson, Glenwood, vice president, and Miss Ellen V. Dolph, Hastings, secretary and treasurer.
The new president appointed: Mrs. Alda Lively, Omaha, Mrs. Wolf, Red Oak, Mrs. Allan Holter, Plattsmouth, Neb., and Mrs. Edith Gaston, Glenwood, program committee; Mrs. Alma Patterson, Glenwood,
Mrs. Walter Cozad, Red Oak, Mrs. Courtland Fisher, Council Bluffs, and Mrs. Everett Lively, Omaha, dinner committee; a committee of four, Everett Lively, Mrs. Percy Wheeler, Mrs. Alma Patterson and Fred Davis,
was appointed to select the place for the 1940 meeting and reported in favor of the armory at Glenwood. The regular time of meeting to be as usual, the third Sunday in August.
An impromptu program consisted of a march by Mrs. Alda Lively; song, "God Bless America," by little Dorothy Dick, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Mabel Dick; reading, "A Chinese Legend," by Mrs. Louise Lively Chambers.
Old fashioned sons were sung by all and the program closed by singing their adopted song, "You Can Smile," led by Miss Marticia Davis.
The oldest member present, M.T. Davis, gave a reminiscent talk and Fred Davis, also a past president, expressed the sentiment of the enjoyment of the meeting.
The youngest member present was baby Roger Dean Anderson.
After a grand march and some visiting the day was voted a great success and a very enjoyable affair to be repeated again next year.
DAVIS FAMILY REUNION HELD AT RED OAK

The descendants of the J.R. Davis family were favored with a nice day for their reunion, which was held in the Chautauqua park at Red Oak, Sunday, Aug. 19.

DAVIS FAMILY MET IN REUNION SUNDAY

The Levi Davis descendants met Sunday, August 25, at Glenwood armory for their sixth annual reunion. Four generations were represented. A bounteous dinner was enjoyed by all at noon,
the family being seated at two large tables. There were 100 people in attendance, the oldest of whom was 92, and the youngest 10 months.
A program was enjoyed by all, the children entertaining with songs, tap dances, readings and acrobatic stunts. Everett Anderson gave two banjo numbers. The address of welcome was given
by Court Tisher, and the response by Marticia Davis, Toasts were given by Mr. and Mrs. Beeson, Fred Davis, F. Geer, C.A. Lessard, and Tom Hall.
Fred Davis was elected president, Mrs. Ed Anderson vice president, and Mrs. C.A. Lessard secretary and treasurer.
Relatives were present from Auburn, New York, Council Bluffs, Lincoln, Sioux City, Red Oak, Glenwood, Malvern, Tabor and Plattsmouth.
The reunion will be held next year in Council Bluffs on the third Sunday in August.

ANNUAL REUNION HELD IN ARMORY SUNDAY WITH 80 PRESENT
Descendants of Levi Davis held their annual reunion and picnic at the Glenwood Armory Sunday with approximately 80 relatives present.
Guests were seated at two long tables as Mr. Fisher returned thanks for the bounteous dinner which all happily enjoyed while visiting and renewing friendships. Then all joined in singing “America” with John Hall at the piano.
Mrs. Abbie Lessard, chairman of the program committee, carried out an interesting program consisting of readings, songs, tap dancing, and acrobatic stunts by Laura, Jessie, and Dorothy Fisher, Shirley Jean Wheeler,
Alta Hall, and Donald Litner.
Mrs. Fred Davis was toastmaster and conducted this part of the program in an original and appropriate manner.
Address of welcome was given by President Cortland Fisher of Council Bluffs and he made every one feel good will and warm welcome.
The response by Marticia R. Davis was enlivened by a smile song which was later requested to be used as a permanent part of future programs.
Everett Anderson gave two songs, playing his own guitar accompaniment.
The oldest member present was Jesse Beason, 92 years old, who gave reminiscences of the early days.
Real interest and some good laughs were the result of impromptu responses from the men.
Mr. Lessard, a new member of the clan, gave a talk on the beauties and advantages of the western coast and Portland, Ore., his home city.
In the business meeting which followed, the following officers were elected: Fred Davis, president; Effie Anderson, vice president; Mrs. Abbie Lessard, secretary-treasurer; Edith Davis Gaston, historian.
Resolutions of sympathy and regret were sent to Edith Gaston and son, Ralph, who were unable to be present because of illness.
M.T. Davis and daughter, Mrs. Margaret Stinard, Mr. Stinard and their children Mary Margaret and Charles, arrived for the last part of the meeting. The Stinards came from Albany, N.Y.
The next meeting will be held in Council Bluffs, the place to be arranged by Mr. Fisher, and the date, a permanent one, is the third Sunday in August.
DAVIS FAMILY REUNION HELD IN BLUFFS SUNDAY

The descendants of Levi Davis held their annual reunion Sunday in the Eagles hall in Council Bluffs with 60 members of the family present, including M.T. Davis and C.F. Davis of Malvern,
who are the only living direct descendants of Levi Davis.
Following a picnic dinner, for which each brought well filled baskets, a program of music, readings and sports, and reminiscing among the guests was enjoyed.
A business meeting was held and officers named for the coming year. These included Everett Lively, son of Minnie Davis Lively, president; succeeding C.F. Davis; Mrs. Patterson, Glenwood, vice president;
Mrs. Addie Tarpening Lessard, Tabor, secretary and treasurer. Committee chairman named to arrange for next year’s reunion were Marticia Davis, Malvern, entertainment; M.T. Davis, Malvern, finance;
George Gaston, Tabor, refreshments.

14TH ANNUAL REUNION HELD IN CHAUTAUQUA PARK IN RED OAK
The descendants of the J.R. Davis family met for their 14th Davis family reunion in Chautauqua
Park at Red Oak Sunday, Aug. 14. There was a bountiful basket dinner at 1 p.m. followed by visiting and a business meeting with Lewis Pratt, president of the organization, presiding. Officers
for the coming year were elected as follows: H.M. Davis of Laredo, Mo., president; H.L. Kellenbarger of Emerson, vice president; Pearl McLain of Emerson, secretary and treasurer; Mrs. John Parker
of Emerson, press correspondent.
At 5 p.m. supper was enjoyed by a large number of this group.
Those attending this reunion were Mrs. Elba Swisher of Elliott and Mrs. Jennie Kellenbarger of Emerson, sisters, and only two present of the original J.R. Davis family. Mrs. Emma Straight of

Thirty-nine members of the Davis family gathered for a basket dinner and reunion at the S.C. Davis home Sunday. Mrs. Jerry Brimer of Baldwin Park, Colo., was the member registering from the greatest distance.
Others present included: Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Shaw of Shenandoah, Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Davis of Lenox, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Davis of Emerson, Mr. and Mrs. O.E. Davis of Malvern, Mr. and Mrs. George Stevens of Council Bluffs
and B.M. Davis of Lincoln. Glenwood residents present were Sam Davis, Joe Davis, Mrs. Paige Andersen and their families.
DAVIS FAMILY REUNION HELD HERE SUNDAY
September 30, 1940
Fifty-one descendants of the late R.L. and Eliza Davis met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Davis in Glenwood on Sunday. Other towns represented were Lenox, Carson, Omaha, Shenandoah and Emerson.
Tables were spread on the lawn for the bountiful picnic dinner, and the afternoon was spent in conversation and with such games as croquet and horseshoe pitching.
