Glenwood Opinion
September 10, 1924

The Briggs Association in America met in the parlor of the First Baptist church at Glenwood, Iowa, on September 9, 1924 on call of the Secretary Seth Dean of this city. The president being absent the vice-president, Mrs. P.C. Tinkham of Rochester, Vt., presided. The following parties being present:

Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Briggs and daughter, Winifred and son, Stanley, Mrs. C.L. Briggs, all of Omaha, Nebr.; Wm. L. Dean, Plainview, Nebr.; Mrs. Nellie P. Self, Fremont, Nebr.; Mrs. Julia A. Pierce and Mrs. Jessie Briggs Tinkham, Rochester, Vt.; Mrs. Hattie E. Waite, Barre, Vt.; Mrs. Caroline B. Field of St. Louis, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Seth Dean, Mr. and Mrs. B.B. Dean, Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Dean, Harvey Dean, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Lambert, Mrs. Henry H. Dean and daughter Betty, Rev. and Mrs. Wm. Shoemaker and Miss Helen Greenlee of Glenwood.

Invocation was by Rev. Shoemaker followed by song "America" in which all present joined. The address of welcome to Glenwood given by B.B. Dean and appropriate response was made by Mrs. Tinkham. The secretary then read letters from quite a number of absent members regretting their inability to attend. The president then appointed committees on necrology, nominations and on resolutions. Adjournment was had for dinner which was served in elegant manner by ladies of the Baptist church. The session was again called to order at 2 p.m. and the report of the secretary was then read. A report from Charles H. Briggs of Minneapolis, Minn., on publishing the Briggs genealogy was made.

The Historian R.L. Richmond being absent no report was had from him on Briggs genealogy. A paper by Seth Dean entitled "Woman Pioneering" was then read. The meeting then adjourned to meet at 7 p.m. at the residence of Seth Dean.

The association met Wednesday morning at the Baptist church at 10 o'clock at which time reports of the committee on necrology, nomination and resolutions were heard and election of officers was held.

At noon they enjoyed a picnic dinner at which time an invitation to attend a matinee presentation of the historical photoplay, "Abraham Lincoln," showing at the Broadway theatre in Council Bluffs was accepted. Thursday will be devoted to trips through Mills county and to various points of interest in south-western Iowa that these visitors from New England may the better appreciate the blessings which their Iowa cousins enjoy.

It has indeed been an honor for Glenwood to have the members of this illustrious family meet here, the first meeting ever held this far west. The east furnished us those stalwart men and women, who were the forefathers of our splendid citizens who can justly be proud of their connection with this family. The east furnished us these men and women who aided so materially in the frontiersman's task of making a home in the wilderness, erecting school houses and churches and laying the foundation for our present development and prosperity and it is therefore with pride that we welcome these visitors from the east who are here to meet with their cousins of the great meddle west which gave to the frontiersmen and women of their family the blessing of fertile valley and the protection of the ragged hills.
