DESCENDANTS OF PIONEER FAMILY MEET IN REUNION
Descendants of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Anthony, Who Came to Mills County 84 Years Ago, Met at Carrie I. Wright Home Here
Glenwood Opinion Tribune
July 15, 1935
Sunday, at the home of Carrie I. Wright on North Vine street in Glenwood, there were gathered a number of the descendants of a pioneer family, descendants of Nicholas Anthony and wife, who came to Mills county 84 years ago bringing with them a family of five sons. Two more were born in this community.

Of these seven Sons the three eldest entered the army at the beginning of the Civil war. Two gave their lives and the third gave his sight as a result of this service. The youngest boy died in infancy. Four of these boys, John Willis, Milton, Marion and Smith, established homes and reared their families within a few miles of Glenwood, and here they all died and are buried.

Of this generation there is left but one, Amelia Anthony, wife of Marion, who makes her home with her daughter here. There were five of the second, eight of the third and six of the fourth generation.

After partaking of a plentiful basket dinner, the day was spent visiting, living over the other days and getting acquainted with those we hadn’t seen for too many years.

An organization was formed to make this a yearly gathering. J. L. Anthony was elected president and Virginia Anthony, secretary and treasurer .

There were present Amelia Anthony of Glenwood; Mr. and Mrs.J. L. Anthony and children Wayne and Virginia. and Leona Anthony Hammers and children Carol and Kenneth. Council Bluffs; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shaw of Glenwood; Nellie Anthony Walkley and daughter of Riverton, Mrs. Chas. M. Anthony and Mary Jean, and Mr. and Mrs. James C. Anthony of Omaha.
