Brandt, Mrs. Lyman died Tuesday morning at her home east of Silver City after a lingering illness of several months. Donner, Mrs. Al died Tuesday at the home of her mother, Mrs. R. J. Bentley in Malvern. Her death was caused by Bright's disease, with which she had been a sufferer for some time. Harmer, William A., died Sunday at the home of his father, A. J. Harmer, 7 miles south of Glenwood. He had been in very poor health for the past 10 months suffering from paralysis and other complications. He was for some weeks in an Omaha hospital. He was the oldest son of Mr. Harmer and was born 24 Nov 1866. He was a single man. For the past 12 years, he had lived near Dallas TX. Hurlbutt, R. H., one of the oldest settlers of Mills county died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. T. Wilkins where he made his home for some years. Death was due to ailments incident to old age. He was in his 88th year. Deceased had lived in Mills county 52 years. He leaves, besides his aged wife, four children to mourn his death: Mrs. James Goodfellow of Ashland NE; M. W. Hurlbutt, Mrs. A. T. Wilkins and R. W. Hurlbutt of Tabor. Besides these are many grandchildren and other relatives. The funeral services will be held at the late home on Friday at 2:30, conducted by Rev. J. W. Ferner. Hurlbutt, Robert H., The funeral of Robert H. Hurlbutt whose death was briefly mentioned in the Beacon last week was held Friday afternoon. Services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Ferner; and interment was made in Tabor cemetery. Robert H. Hurlbutt was born at Pittsburgh PA 3 May 1820; resided there with his parents until the summer of 1835, when they moved to Clarksfield, Huron county, OH. February 29, 1844, he married Arvilla Mead, and in 1856 they loaded their effects in a "prairie schooner", in which they drove across the country with their two young children, Malber W. and Alice M., arriving in Tabor, 1 July 1856, and settling on the raw prairie; where their present residence now stands. Two children were afterward born to them in Iowa; Robert W. and Eunice M. He is survived by 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He joined the Congregational church early in life at Clarksfield OH, and with his wife brought letters to the Tabor church, which they joined in 1856. He was a very close friend of Father John Todd, who was instrumental in inducing him to move here from Ohio 52 years ago. Kisby, Henry, one of the early day pioneers of Mills county and one of the oldest persons in these parts, died Wednesday 2 Sep 1908, at his home two miles north of Glenwood at the advanced age of 90 years. Mayberry, Lewis M., A fatal accident occurred Monday afternoon near Glenwood, in which Lewis M. Mayberry lost his life in a tragic manner. "Tell" as he was familiarly known, was working in a saw mill in the Buffington timber near the Friends church, about 5 miles north of Glenwood. He was caught in the huge and rapidly whirling circular saw and his body was almost severed before assistance could possibly be rendered him. He has lived in this locality for nearly 30 years, coming with his parents from Ohio in 1879. He was 44 years old last October. His family consists of a wife and six children, 3 boys and 3 girls, the youngest 2 years and the oldest 17 years of age. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Mayberry, now residing in Glenwood. He is survived also by three brothers and one sister. His wife is a sister of Mark and James Evans. The funeral will be held at the Glenwood Christian church, of which deceased was a member, on Thursday morning at 11 o'clock. Burial will be made in the Glenwood cemetery. Moore, Joseph W., an old time resident of Glenwood, died Monday at Plattsmouth. He has been partially paralyzed and in poor health for some years. The body was brought to Glenwood for burial where the parents and wife of the deceased are buried. He is survived by two children. Four brothers and sisters live in Mills county: Mrs. M. T. Deupree, Glenwood; Mrs. D. C. Jackson and J. S. Moore, Silver City; and James Moore, Hastings. The deceased was 55 years old. Tabor Beacon - 30 Oct 1908
Nipp, H. W. died Monday evening September 14. Mineola loses one of its foremost citizens, one of the strong German pioneers who aided much in the development of that section of Queen Mills. We extend our earnest sympathy to the sons and daughters and aged widow whose loved one has been taken. The funeral services were held at the late home in Mineola Tuesday afternoon at the Lutheran church conducted by the pastor, Rev. O. Rickabaugh, Samuel E., an old soldier who lived at Glenwood for a number of years, died March 8, 1908 at the home of his son Claude east of Silver City and was buried on March 10 at Wesley Chapel cemetery. Rooney, The 7 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Rooney, living northwest of Tabor died Tuesday night of last week with malignant croup. The funeral was held Wednesday, conducted by Rev. Schick, William, a well-known farmer and old settler, died suddenly on Wednesday, 21 Oct 1908, at his home a half mile south of Emerson. He has been in poor health for the past few weeks and death resulted from heart trouble. He was out in the yard getting ready to go to town when he was stricken. He died before medical assistance could arrive. He is survived by a wife and large family of grown children. West, Mrs. John Carlos. In the death of Mrs. John Carlos West, which occurred Sunday, June 14, 1908, Mills county loses another pioneer citizen; Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the old home northeast of Tabor conducted by Rev. J. W. Ferner. Interment was made in the Fairview church cemetery. Ann E. Terryberry was born in Belvidere NJ, 12 Jan 1834; died 14 Jun 1908. She came to Mills county, Iowa, in 1856, and was married to John M. West in 1857, who died 5 May 1904. To them were born eight children, seven of whom are living. John Carlos West, their eldest son, died 1 Oct 1863 at the age of 6 years. The seven who mourn the loss of a loving mother are: W. D., Carlos and H. M. West, Mrs. Adelia Aistrope, Clara M. West, Gertrude Good, and Mary Alice Russing. "Gran", as Mrs. West was affectionately known to her many friends, was a pioneer and a great lover of flowers.
