Silver City graduating commencement of 1942 was held at the high school auditorium Thursday. Marian Carlson was class valedictorian and Geraldine Rommel was salutatorian.. Speaker was John H. Horsley of Indianola. This was the 51st graduating class.
Miss Hazel Gee played the piano and James Kruse played on the cornet.
Eighth graders receiving diplomas: Marie Ord, Duane Stewart, Carrol Clay, Dale Bailor, Alene McCoy, Virgil Decker, Lee Deitchler, Truman Fender, John Warren, Catherine Goos, Jean Jones and Harold Skerritt.
The mixed quartet, composed of Naomi Frazier, Marian Carlson, LeRoy Anderson and Kenneth Deitchler sang two songs..
Seniors receiving diplomas: Jack Burgoin, Margaret Mass, Kenneth Deitchler, Thomas Hayes, Marion Carlson, Geraldine Rommel, Harvey Robertson, Lee Messenger and Naomi Frazier.
The Rev. Ivan Magers of the Methodist church gave the invocation.
Carrol Allensworth, son of Leslie and Bernice Allensworth has completed ordnanceman’s training at Corpus Christi, Tex. Carroll enlisted in the navy last fall while a junior at Silver City high school.
Miss Marie E. Jones became the bride of Sheldon Hendrix at the Congregational parsonage in Tabor Saturday. The ceremony was performed by the Pastor Rev. Peter Jacobs.
Miss Jones is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Jones of Hopkins, Mo. and is a former teacher in the public school in Silver City and has been an instructor in Shenandoah.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Hendrix and the twin brother of Shirley Hendrix, also of this city. Mr. Hendrix is a graduate of the local high school in the class of 1926. He has been employed by Montgomery Ward Co. at Ft. Dodge.
They were accompanied by Rev. and Mrs. Donald Duncan of Shenandoah. Mr. Hendrix was inducted into the army Tuesday.
The American legion Auxiliary met with Mrs. J. H. Hendrix and six members.
Two delegates, Mrs. Carl Green and Mrs. Rudolph Miller were chosen to attend district conference at Missouri Valley. Alternate is Mrs. L. F. Kruse.
The Gordon May Post of the American Legion met in regular session Monday at the city hall. Carl Green of Mineola and A. J. Rommel were appointed to draw up a resolution of respect to be used by the legion.
Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Sanderson entertained at pinochle Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Volney Warren and Charlotte spent the evening Friday with the Lester Marsden family in the Stratton area.
