Candidates appear at Good Govt. Banquet:
A banquet was held at the Hastings Methodist church. Sixteen candidates were scheduled to appear. Democrats were disappointed when Nelson Kraschel did not arrive to give the main address. Miss Mary Fagan of Casey replaced Kraschel on the program. James I. Dolliver was the principal speaker.
Other candidates who spoke were J. R. Hall, Woodford Byington, William Slezak, James Floyd, Joe Davis, Charles Irwin, Lee Roland, Ward Slothower, C.D. Alstrope, O.C. Osterholm, Mrs. Jesse Steele and Miss Hattie Brown, all candidates for county offices, and H. L. Peyton of Logan and R.W. Cockshoot of Atlantic for other offices. Also present were Mrs. Virginia Silvers from the central office in Des Moines and Judge Mantz from this district.
Nearly 100 were present.
Mrs. Harry Regenauer and Janet of Thurman spent the week with their mother and grandmother in Hastings. Mr. Regenauer enlisted in the air corps and is stationed at Glendale, Cal.
Visitors in the home of Mrs. Elfreda Carlson were Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Briley and Donald, Mrs. Harry Regenauer and daughter Janet, Mrs. Ada Regenauer of Glenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kelley, Deloris and Jimmy, Carl Nelson, Marvin and Norman.
Mrs. Ada Regenauer has received word that her son-in-law, Captain Nelson has been promoted to major in the naval reserves.
Mrs. Clyde Cox of Glenwood visited in the Roy Crawford home Monday.
Ella Mae Simpson has been visiting with relatives in Red Oak.
Miss Mildred Carey is attending summer school in Council Bluffs.
Mr. and Mrs. Harley Niday left for Denver, Colo. in the hopes of finding work there. Mark Bowen is caring for the dairy route while they are gone.
Mrs. N.A. Sullivan of McCook, Neb. is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Crawford. Mr. Sullivan is at the induction center at Ft. Leavenworth.
Mr. and Mrs. George Parker entertained at a pot luck Wednesday. Those present were Mrs. Gerald Bobbitt, Mrs. Ralph Knight, Mrs.Forrest Reander, all of California, Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Pilling of Macedonia, Mr. and Mrs. Elsworth Plumb and Virginia, Mrs. Ella Plumb and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Phillips of Henderson.
Mr. and Mrs. James Parkison of Percival visited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Lookabill on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lookabill returned Mrs. Ronald Webb to her home in Gravity after a visit. Sharon Webb will stay with her aunt and uncle a while longer.
Mrs. Aaron Crouse of Creston spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Crouse.
Mrs. Charles Anderson in Denver, Colo. has been quite ill at her home.
Mrs. Richard Payne and daughter of Sidney visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Crawford.
Mrs. Harold Bixler and Randall of Shenandoah visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Young.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Yates and baby Belda spent time with her mother, Mrs. Floyd Hall and family. They returned to his place of employment in Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Haroff and children visited with relatives in Missouri. Miss Zada Cheney of Glenwood is visiting with Betty Haroff.
