East Liberty Community News

The annual Memorial services had a large crowd in attendance at church. A vocal solo was sung by Rolland Bird, Rev. Ivan R. Magers read two poems. Among those present that came from a distance were, Mr. and Mrs. J.G.Whitesides of Omaha, Mrs. Norrah Irwin of Tabor, Mr. and Mrs. Si Van Horne and Frances of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Fred Hauger of Treynor, Rev. and Mrs. H.G. Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Sell of Glenwood and many others.

Mr. and Mrs. John Hansen and daughters and Mrs. Roy Mayberry of near Glenwood were dinner guests of C.M. Nelson Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. George Warner and Naomi of Hancock, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Bowman and Dorothy of Carson were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Shaw. Mr. and Mrs. Alton Alberts and family of Peaceville visited later in the day.

Joan Fitch of Glenwood is spending a few days with her aunt, Mrs. W. H. Maddox and family.

Mrs. Otto Cary and daughter Detta visited in Wichita, Kan. with Lsee Cary.

Mr.and Mrs. C. M. Nelson honored their daughter Ethel with a birthday party Wednesday. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Steve Haines and, Miss Harriet Crawford of Hastings, Mrs. Fannie Harris and La Vern and Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Maddocks and family.

Miss Edna Cook recently had a fracture of her ankle. She is now in a cast and on crutches.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald of Kanawha were guests of his aunt B.J. Lookabill. They then left for Denver, Colo. to visit his ill mother, Mrs. Chas. S. Anderson.

Dinner guests in the W.H. Maddocks home were Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Wilhelm, Florence and Charles of Shelby, Mr. and Mrs. Estel Darby of Emerson, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Fitch of Glenwood, Clarence Hunt and Jean of near Henderson and Dale Hunt and family of near Red Oak.

Mr. and Mrs. George Brower, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Brower, Sharon and David of near Glenwood were dinner guests of Mrs. Laura Keeney.

Miss Bernice Schoening returned to Denver after vacationing with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Schoening.

Services were held for a former resident of Malvern, Mrs. Emma Kaiser of Council Bluffs. Service was performed by former pastor Rev. W.H. Cable. She had been cared for by her daughter, Mrs. Laura McMillen and granddaughter Florence, with whom she had been living during her illness.

Ralph Maddocks came from Crete to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Maddocks. Ralph will continue with his studies at Doane college.

Mr. and Mrs. Otis Lewis visited friends and relatives in Omaha and Council Bluffs Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Harley Griffey of Shenandoah spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Culley.

Mrs. W.H. Maddocks, accompanied by Mrs. Glen Fitch and Mrs. Wm. Schiermier of Glenwood were in Council Bluffs on business.

Dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sell were Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Scott and Carolyn of near Red Oak Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Henderson of Silver City, have purchased the Otto Cary farm. Possession to be Aug. 1.

Mrs. Glen Fitch of Glenwood and Mrs. W.B. Mattocks spent a day with their sister, Mrs. Joe Mayberry, near Macedonia.

A church work week and pot luck was held. Among the workers were Frank Anderson, Silver City, Willis Lee Parks and Wayne Walker doing the heavy work.

Frank Buffington was a dinner guest of his son Franklin and family of Glenwood.

Mrs. Minnie Chase of Council Bluffs has been visiting in the Fred Sell home the past week.

Mr. and Mrs. Armand Smith of Hastings were Sunday guests in the home of his mother, Mrs. A. J. Darnold, and family. They attended the Memorial Day services at East Liberty that afternoon.
